Well the Independent W. Ralph Ward-Jackson sounds far too posh for Hartlepool and if typical of any town centre on a Friday night then the Incredible Flying Brick (Monster Raving Loony) stands a good chance.

Well the polls say Johnson will win (which is to say his Tory stand-in), doubtless because of his sexy curtains, and so I have indicated on the poll.

It isn't who ought to win, for the good of the town/area/country, but that's another matter.

I can't see Labour winning, the candidate was forced on them by the executive, the local favourite was banned from applying, they limited it to a short list of one. NIP (Northern Independence Party) was set up to fight the seat, no chance of winning but will take a fair number of Labour voters away.

The more this happens, the more I hope it provokes fundamental political change. There is no real opposition to the current government, in Westminster (where they can't due to FPTP Tory majority) or out, where there is a total lack of vision.

I posted this in another thread

I can't help wondering if there is a second level to this cartoon.
The noise could have been portrayed by any number of things; a crash, a campaign bus with a wheel falling off etc. But the buildings on the other side of the street are actually being destroyed.

So as well as the invisibility issue, is there an element also of just not caring because "we're okay on our side"

A bit like the point that la mancha has been making

I suspect there's going to be a pretty low turnout all round in these elections.

Severe disengagement.

They should send us Americans over there. We’d be sure to vote early and often.

As a resident of the city that delivered the presidency to Kennedy, I'll drink to that.

No, but then he never did. A better question would be, does Labour?

I went to vote yesterday in Glasgow at 08:00 but the queue for the polling station was massive so I didn't bother. I tried again in the mid-afternoon and queued for 30 minutes to vote. Took the dogs out at 10pm and the queue was still around the entire block of the school. Absolutely astonishing stuff. I predict that turnout in Scotland will be massive.

The Tories tend to do well when turnout is low and people are disengaged and uninformed, that's exactly why they try to turn people off politics. When people ARE engaged and informed, the Tories usually get a kicking.

The fact that the Tories will do well in these elections is an absolute tragedy for the UK, and for democracy. How is it possible to hold these people to account?
