I don't think that can be blamed on Portsmouth per se, but you never know I suppose. I think Kipling actually had a pretty sad life in many ways, and he lost his son in WWI.
Meh, it's just her name isn't it. I rang her today and she was over the moon, I could tell because she started with "oh hello, who are you?" and was VERY proud of her joke. I must ring her more........

No, I guess it can't, just someone from Portsmouth. Although, it happened in Southsea which I would typically defend very strongly as a lovely place and NOT part of Portsmouth.

Here's to sarcastic mums everywhere. The Little Lion credits me with his ability to fit into British culture for this very reason.

There's a good military surplus place in Southsea. I got the LL a Navy sweater and some leather gloves. He wanted one of the big ****-off knives, but that idea got voted down by mum as madness, even though he promised he would keep it at home.

Oh I love a good military surplus. There's a good one in Salisbury too, few shops down from McDonalds. Went on a one-night school camp thing, barely out the city with proper business mess tins and not a hint of teenage irony.

Off topic---- but reminds me of son years ago ---day school trip to France----gave him money for some local items-----cheese etc. Brought back a flick knife and a pack of pornographic playing cards. (They all bought the latter and secretly put extra packs in 'sirs' bag and 'sir' was a vicar!!!)

Boys love knives. It's a pity that things have taken the turn they have and they can't carry them any more.

This place has some lovely old copper and brass ship fittings, lamps, etc. Not practical to bring back to the States.

I like camping, but you couldn't have paid me to do that with school. It's how I get away from people.

No choice I'm afraid but take the positives, we were being nurtured to become well rounded men of greatness. Totes worked.

A quick summing up so far

BBC 'makes mistake' in somehow inserting old footage into new footage, saving Boris from embarrassment.
BBC 'makes mistake' in editing out laughter in news reports following debate, saving Boris from embarrassment.
Conservative central office doctors interview with Labour MP to give false impression - even Piers objected strongly.
Conservative website falsely claims to be FactcheckUK website.

It's getting like the USA isn't it.

Well, if Comrade Corbyn wins power and does whatever dastardly thing he wants to do to private and grammar schools then there'll be fewer well-rounded (physically, mentally and emotionally) great humans like me.

I agree with this.
IMO. People should be voting on the manifestos , not what leadership is in place - which could be changed anyway - nor on the UK EU exit .

For the UK EU exit you want someone(s) with a clear vision for helping the UK . Someone that can set aside a personal preference, if they have one, and look to the good of a nation.
You don't want someone looking to make some sort of hay whilst the sun shines nor someone that blows in the wind. Above all you need transparency and honesty for whatever WA is on the table and place that before the nation.

Regardless of this, the election should be about national policies, not the UK EU exit. Anyone seeking to muddy the waters & use a national UK GE in that way should be disregarded.
