In the list of other add-ons I was amused by Who deleted me - unfriend finder to keep track of who unfriends you.
I don't have any friends, so I don't need that one. I really only use FB to chat with Little Lion.

If taken out of FB context, that sounds sad! I'd suggest you try another platform to communicate - there are better ones out there.

Weird. I didn't think they had internet in Portsmouth yet. Good old Conservatives, they must have done that.

They still vote with a bit of paper and a pen though. I had no idea. Is there still no electronic voting anywhere in the UK?

The LL lives and studies in a Labour constituency, Portsmouh South, narrowly seized from the Tories in 2017 by 2 or 3 thousand votes, the first time in history there has been a Labour MP there. The barbarians Tories are just just over the river in Portsmouth North, and I'm sure will be pouring plenty of resources into the area to try and get it back. We shall see.

BT would indicate they're getting phones, people in Portsmouth can't use phones because they don't have thumbs.

The sometime home of Dickens, Conan Doyle, H. G. Wells, and Kipling.

No, they could hardly write at all...

Not many phones in their day! Semaphore (an idea pinched from the French) worked well though!

Where I vote in Southampton it was won by 30 votes. Out of 45,000. I can't quite get my head around that, just spectacular, demonstrating the importance of voting (got my papers on email last night, got to respond so Mummy can vote for me).

I had no idea about Kipling having been those parts (I did know the others) so I googled it. You're going to regret chucking that heavyweight in, I hope you laugh like I have (source is Wikipedia):

Kipling's days of "strong light and darkness" in Bombay ended when he was five. As was the custom in British India, he and his three-year-old sister Alice ("Trix") were taken to the United Kingdom — in their case to Southsea, Portsmouth — to live with a couple who boarded children of British nationals living abroad. For the next six years (from October 1871 to April 1877), the children lived with the couple – Captain Pryse Agar Holloway, once an officer in the merchant navy, and Sarah Holloway – at their house, Lorne Lodge, 4 Campbell Road, Southsea.

In his autobiography published 65 years later, Kipling recalled the stay with horror, and wondered if the combination of cruelty and neglect which he experienced there at the hands of Mrs Holloway might not have hastened the onset of his literary life: "If you cross-examine a child of seven or eight on his day's doings (specially when he wants to go to sleep) he will contradict himself very satisfactorily. If each contradiction be set down as a lie and retailed at breakfast, life is not easy. I have known a certain amount of bullying, but this was calculated torture — religious as well as scientific. Yet it made me give attention to the lies I soon found it necessary to tell: and this, I presume, is the foundation of literary effort".

I don't think that can be blamed on Portsmouth per se, but you never know I suppose. I think Kipling actually had a pretty sad life in many ways, and he lost his son in WWI.
