George Floyd

Well, the police finally did something about looting.
Vallejo police kill unarmed 22-year-old, who was on his knees with his hands up

As for them being afraid that the man had a gun in his pocket (even though his hands were in the air, apparently, and it turned out to be a hammer) - well, concealed carry with a license is legal in California, and of course nobody had yet checked whether or not he had a license. So perhaps this is yet another reason not to have armed citizenry. It makes the police jumpy and that can get you killed.
Apparently that community was becoming more hopeful because the police hadn't killed anyone in just over a year

Make of this what you will I am only quoting from a CNN online article
When Floyd's death took place, it was Kueng's third shift as a police officer, said Thomas Plunkett, his attorney. Chauvin, he added, was Kueng's training officer.
Plunkett said Kueng turned to Chauvin at one point and said, "You can't do this."

The defence attorneys will use this as part of the defence that 2 x rookies each told Chauvin that what he was doing was wrong and at those specific moments in time had no idea that Floyd would later die. Is it a defence to the general public then the answer is a resounding No.

This is not a protest. This is not the spirit of Martin Luther King Junior. This is chaos. A protest has purpose. When Dr King was assassinated, this was not done in the cities. They are disgracing the life of George Floyd and every other person who has been killed in this country. If you want change in America, go and register to vote. Do it in November.

And we don't seem to have made nearly enough progress, do we.

Not trolling but making a point about social media mobs, which seemed to once again in many cases get carried away with hysteria. It was blindingly obvious to many of us that there was a difference between the rioters and the protesters right from the beginning but the mob (and the media) seemed very slow to recognise that.

I have no idea what you are referring to, but social media isn't the point really, is it. There are more important things at stake than how people interact on social media.

That's a bit sad, isn't it?

US police seem to be all too often trained to treat people like enemy combatants. I mean, this old guy was hardly a threat, was he?
