Defund The Police
#61

Another example of the past defeat of the Conservative being viewed as a righteous defeat, despite the claim that the sky would fall, moments before the defeat. and the new contemporary struggle as the last battle before the sky really collapses.

The threat from President Trump to defund the armed forces looks like it will not now happen, as the Bill with Elizabeth Warren's amendment to rename the Confederate base names, has passed with a veto proof majority.

I see the Portland mayor had to be protected from protesters by his security team after they threatened to assault him. Why were they upset? Or was this just yet another case of progressives turning on each other?

Most sources are reporting that people tried to set fire to it, maybe this is a new incident from latish this morning that I haven't heard about yet. But without a link I am unable to know if they are out of step with the majority of sources and why, or if this is a different new event.

Why has it happened? You'll have to ask the person who started the fire I reckon.

Is that the same Portland mayor that federal goons tear gassed?
He's had a very bad week.

Yes, despite not being that progressive, he resents POTUS sending his fatigue-wearing thugs to grab people off the streets of his city. So he got gassed.
He's been busy

Last I saw the building was surrounded by a large crowd of Portland witches whose plan was to levitate the building.
I love that town.

I saw multiple contradictory reports - some painting it as a deliberate arson, some saying things like wayward firework started a small fire etc. Most were refusing to report it at all.
I decided to go with Oregon Public Broadcasting's version of events, since I thought they were the least likely to be putting a slant on it.

Jenny Durkan is next. Imploring for peaceful protests, which will enrage anarchists and extremists, while at the same time she will be bullied and ridiculed from the right. Durkan does have a benefit in that Seattle is not quite as extreme as Portland. Regardless the opinion of Boiler some on here have, he is correct that this will not be allowed to continue and if the local authorities don't get a handle on it, the feds will. Trump is not just hoping for that, he is actually counting on it.

Agreed. The longer this goes on the worse it is. Americans support police reform but they do not support violence, arson, defunding police, dumping statues in the river etc. Portland is becoming the face of BLM and that is catastrophic to the aim of police reform. The public does not support what is happening in Portland and there have already been major shifts detected in public opinion over the past 30 days. Couple that, with the realisation that there are still 3 months until Election Day and you can suddenly see the contours of trouble taking shape. Hopefully the public cares more about Covid-19 than extremists in the Pacific Northwest.
Yes. He can't win, which is what happens when you try to get out in front of a freight train. It runs you over. We just saw it with that other poster turning on him - "not that progressive." No reasonable and objective analysis of Ted Wheeler's record, would conclude he is anything other than a serious progressive.

You nut, "the other poster" didn't "turn on him". She just pointed out that despite the fact you had characterized him as a progressive, he clearly had other, non-progressive traits such as unleashing tear gas and batons on protesters.
