Default Deer hunting fever...do you?

As it seems that I am the only person in NW AR who does not hont deer, I was wondering if any of you do (ABY excepted...I am sure that's a given)?

I have never been against hunting, just didn't grow up in a hunting family- and it seems that hunting is passed down from Father to son for the most part. I kind of envy thos lucky 8 year olds, killing their own buck, then all the fun of gutting, skinning, hanging, and butchering it...all so they can turn it into summer sausage and jerkey that they could buy at Walmart for 1/2 the price of what was invested in hunting/butchering the bambi.

America - the only country in the world where people go hunting on a full stomach.

Hmmm...a wise hunter doesn't wait until he's hungry to go hunting but I think I know you're driving at the fact that most Americans don't need to hunt these days to survive.

Still if the wild animal population supports a few hunters I have no problem with people hunting - humans evolved as hunters gatherers - farming is only a fraction of a history as a species.

Not even close.

Actually, the US IS about the only country (Along with our cousins to the North and some Scandinavian countries) where the "average" person can still hunt. In most other places including the UK it's strictly an upper class pastime.

Depends what you want to hunt. And whether you hunt, erm, in the approved manner.

Having said that, there's a lot less room in the UK for amateurs to go around letting off firearms in the general direction of animals. Far too many people would get shot.

We Brits have been bashed in to thinking hunting is a bad thing, after being banished from the land and out priced by the toffs. Somehow instead of Brits demanding access to hunting, we just do not want to go and do it, the hunting toffs pulled a master PR stroke somewhere.

I still hold a bit of a grudge against Brit deer hunters, but thats because it limits where one can go walking in the Scottish mountians. It always seemed that where ever I planned to go, they would bring hunting season forward to that weekend.

I do not believe in blood sports period, if you are going to kill an animal to eat then try and make it as humane as possible ( no I don't need to know the ins and outs of how KFC McDonalds etc breed and kill there animals...I am fully aware already), why anyone would get a thrill from shooting a animal and seeing it suffer is beyond me (ABY love ya its not personal)....we have so many deer around the golf course and in the gardens here a hunter would be in his element, yes some spread desease but to stand there and shot and get excited over the culling is sick

Nope. Not remotely interested. Other than going for a walk around town, riding my bike or playing footie, I prefer to leave that outdoors stuff to someone else.

Not my scene at all

I plan to do it one day. There is a lot more satisfaction in being able to source your own meat, that you know is free-range, that you know didn't suffer for more than a second or smell the blood as they get shifted in queues to the slaughterhouse. If you eat meat, you should at least kill once for food yourself.

But I draw the line at killing for the fun itself, shooting wolves or bears when there isn't a direct threat. People cheer when certain species come off the endangered list because it means they can go out and shoot them! WTF? It's almost extinct and you want to kill more?

Any of you remember this story ?

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0405/p01s02-ussc.html

" Sliding his computer mouse around until he locates a moving target, the hunter sets the animal in his sites and pulls the rifle's trigger with a click of his finger. Down goes a wild boar. Another trophy bagged.

Yet in this case it's not a video game. It's a new kind of hunting experience in which people anywhere in the world can sit at home and target real game by controlling a gun in a remote location ".
