According to CBC they believe the man has had limited contact with others mostly people he lives with who are in self isolation at the moment.

Looks like arrival in Canada on 22nd, called 9-11 on the 23rd feeling unwell, and confirmation from lab on 25th.

apart from the people on the plane. I was surprised to hear they are only contacting people who where sat within 3 rows of him. Guess he must have flown all the way from China without moving from his seat.

That makes absolutely zero sense unless the plane's ventilation system was turned off!

There has to be a sporting chance that everyone on board a long haul flight with him is infected.

FWIW a case has been reported in NC too.

Yeah you would think they would notify everyone on the plane as a precaution, wonder if he flew non-stop to Toronto or connected elsewhere first.

So I guess the within 3 rows is stemming from the belief this virus requires very close contact to spread. At least the way it sounded anyhow, but who knows.

Also sounds like the ventilation and filtration traps keeps the risk on aircraft low except for those close to the infected person.

Guess the health people know what they are doing.

So 1-14 day incubation
Infectious during incubation period which apparently SARS was not, so that is not a good thing.

You can say that again!

I read it is more like MERS, the camel spreading virus.

According to the state health people it isn't spread just through the air like that. Who knows if they really understand the thing yet, but this virus is a variant of other corona viruses that they do have experience with, so we can hope they know what they are talking about. Wash your hands, folks, and prevent "filth to mouth" - ie keep your fingers out of your mouth, nose and eyes if travelling on a plane from China.

"Coronaviruses "primarily spread through close contact with another individual, in particular through coughing and sneezing on somebody else who is within a range of about 3 to 6 feet from that person," said Dr. Kathy Lofy, a state health officer for Washington, where the patient with confirmed coronavirus has been hospitalized. If an infected person sneezes or coughs onto a surface — a countertop, for example — and another person touches that surface and then rubs his or her eyes or nose, for example, the latter may get sick."

Cook all eggs and meats, fowl, bats etc thoroughly before eating and don't mix raw meat, eggs or milk with other foods. These also are listed as preventative measures until we see how it is spreading in the animal kingdom around us undetected.
Fish is ok except for Whale meat, don't eat that! Seriously.

Camels aren't a huge problem in Chicago, sneezing or otherwise.

The Windy City is called that due to the politicians blowing a lot of hot air, not because it's windy. Although it is.
