I wouldn't dunk Hobnobs either. I don't dunk anything that would put bits in the bottom of the cup.

Luckily I gave that up when I was 10. As soon as I discovered the idea was to 'take back' I quit.

You need to order Weetabix?

Not if your potassium gets too high. All that leaching of spuds is a pain.

Ah, thanks. Still getting their cruise and those annoying folk from across the hall have gone.
Probably get spoiled rotten.

A hotel chain has said it could turn its properties into temporary hospitals if the NHS needs additional bed space during the coronavirus outbreak, PA reports.

Best Western Great Britain said it will discuss the move this week and would be willing to take “unprecedented” steps to help.

The chain, which is the largest independent hotel group in Britain, said it had seen a significant increase in cancellations over the last month due to the outbreak.

Rob Paterson, chief executive officer of Best Western Great Britain, said: “We are in unprecedented territory so we would be willing to take unprecedented steps to support the national effort.

“If the NHS wants additional bed space, and we can partner with other companies to provide the right medical equipment and supplies, and we can do it safely, then we would be willing to start having those conversations immediately.

“Whatever we can do to help.”

I just hope not too many of us have to beg permission for lip to wobble before this is all over.

Unfortunately, yes. HEB do sell it in their big stores and sometimes Kroger has it but all the big stores are in Houston so it is more convenient to order from Amazon. Also it is not for me, it's for M. I am the oatmeal freak. It's my comfort food I could buy it locally but it's cheaper on Amazon.

In practice in the UK it's a really poor idea that hasn't been thought through. We don't have the infrastructure in place to deliver support to elderly people in their own homes. Its forcing elderly folk like my mum who manages to maintain her own independence into a dependent lifestyle before its necessary. Plus the social isolation is no good for mental health, particularly at that age - often having a few words with a cashier is the only time they interact with a human being.

As an example, I'm going to have to source a weekly mobile hairdresser for my mum at a minimum. (and her hairdresser will probably go to the wall as she is a small place specialising in elderly folk, its like a bloody social club there). Maybe someone to do her feet every month. I won't be able to rely on online shopping like usual as all the slots have gone plus who knows if they'll actually have stock in. So that means I'll have to drive over at least once a week (200 mile round trip) to take her groceries - and potentially expose her to whatever I've been exposed to. Oh - she collects her pension at the post office every week and pays some bills in person as she likes feeling in control, has dodgy eyesight and doesn't do the internet, so that's another thing. Luckily she doesn't have a dog - who would walk it for her?

A much better idea would be some kind of social distancing specialisation - eg dedicate certain days and times for old folk at shops/post offices etc ask everyone else to avoid those days and times and put extra people on duty to help to get them in and out as fast as possible.

Are the government planning to tell these weapon-makers etc. how to make a ventilator? Or are we relying on the Dunkirk Spirit?
FFS. They're medical devices. Which means they are highly regulated and the manufacturing facilities need to be of a certain standard, employees trained, fully auditable etc. That's before getting to the point of whether they have the parts/tooling to do it. It's like asking shampoo manufacturers if they could whip up some insulin for diabetics.

Matt Hancock seems to be Minister for Impractical ideas today.

Well, a bit of an interesting point there tumbleweedly .
My understanding is that UK prison hospitals aren't equipped, staffed, or maintained from general taxation, but by the NHS grant. The nurses etc., are NHS employees. If the govt is considering taking over, private clinics, army field hospitals and even hotel complexes, these readily equipped facilities, behind walls, are there too. I foresee some prisoners objecting though
