I am a long time Athesit and really object to the nonsense that people throw down my throat about God and religion. I am a good person with strong moral values and I don't really need a religion to guide me on my way.
I am constantly warmed by the thought (when attacked with the usual defense opf religion, about how much ggood it brings to the world), of what activity, task, charity, or anything can a religious person do that I as an Atheist cannot do equally well? In essence, religion is not a requirement for good in this world, it may bring good in some but it also attracts evil as do Athesits. but the point is that it cannot be argued that the world is a better place because of it, therefore, why do we need it? My long term view has always been that it is to help us believe in a safe passing when we pass away, nothing more nothing less. I feel comfortable knowing that the switch is turned off and I leave this world to the next generation. I would hate to think that I would have to spend eternity dressed in white on a cloud, arguing with my family !!
Would be interested to hear your views as well.

I do tend to find that many folk turn to religion who have shady pasts and think it will cleanse them BOLLOCKS.......
I have a question if God loves all his children and will forgive us if we forgive ourselves and let us all into the Kingdom of Heaven..then WTF is the point in bible bashing!!

Ritz, tuc, whatever!! Philly's good on english muffins too! Don't forget bagels!!
I was brought up as a Methodist, so on the one hand quite strict with regard to drinking, gambling etc but on the other hand no pressure to be holier than thou. When I was 16/17 I started going to retreats and camps and even considered joining the Sally Army - seriously!! I became born again....So, been there, done that. It gives you an immense sense of security having all these strangers around you, who believe what you believe and will also catch you if you fall. As a teen who'd lost her mum very early this was obviously something I then needed....Then I met my thoroughly Atheist OH and I started to question what I believed in - 30 years later I can honestly say I still believe in something, sometimes it's God (the one from the bible), other times its just some greater force, I don't believe we are alone in this Universe either. Neither of my children were Christened as I'd gone too far past regarding myself as a Christian by that point but if they want to go to church, I have no problem with it, I think my OH would though...My daughter is at a Catholic school with the suore here in Italy and some of the stuff she comes home with I find hard to swallow, I don't and never will agree with the cult of Mary, miracles, visions etc, are not and have never been my thing and was one of the main reasons I started to query Christianity...I think he was a good bloke who tried to bring peace to a difficult era..
Anyway I could ramble on, but that's my two penn'orth!
