Excusing it and cheering it on.

It's just bizarre in a developed 21st-century country. And yet, here we are, with such behaviour accepted as normal.

It's the exact opposite of how you deal with a problem. If someone does something you don't like, threatening them and getting fighty only leads one way. Whether those protesters were right or wrong to be there, your response to the situation makes it go one way or another. The fact you're going to end up plastered all over international news sites is just a brucey bonus in your tally of moron points.

Denver’s George Floyd protests cost at least $5.5 million in damage, overtime

Number doesn’t include damage to statues this week

https://www.denverpost.com/2020/06/2...-costs-denver/

Denver post would generally be considered an activist ally.

Probably would have been cheaper to sort out the institutional racism decades ago, wouldn't it. Still, hindsight is 20/20 eh?

I'm not completely sure that that's what the French had in mind when they gave them this, but I could be wrong I suppose.

But in answer to your second question - exactly. What would protesters in the UK or Europe have "expected", and what indeed would have happened? What does it say that there is a reasonable expectation of being shot by civilians because you walk, and yes, even protest, on a private bit of street somewhere?

This one wasn't even on a private street.

This country's a mess.
I can't just walk into someone's yard if they leave the gate open.

Now the protesters complain but they are probably just saying that after the fact.

Imagine if they'd come out and clapped - even if they disagree - clap and cheer and you'd have people coming nowhere near your precious mansion.
If they'd locked the doors and windows and stayed upstairs, they'd probably have faced zero trouble. Maybe if they had someone break-in (let's pretend there were scallywags in the crowd) then a phone call to the rozzers is in order. Maybe even a swift slap to the chops of said intruder. I still think waving a weapon is a bit extreme.

****ing 'Merica. It's a shit show at the moment isn't it.
It's a gated walled of yard, they aren't just walking down the street.

I agree, crazy people thinking they can walk on someone else's marked, fenced off, private property like they own it, in America, and not expect something bad to happen. Crazy people.

"in America" - is that an excuse or an explanation? In the UK, anyone threatening use of a lethal weapon would be called to account for their actions - the same is true in most other civilized countries. Just because it hapens, doen't mean it's correct.
