BLM backs Jussie Smollett: ‘We can never believe the police’

Hopefully this is OK.

Is what ok? BLM still supporting Smollett because they don't trust the Police? It's not surprising, because the black communitoes have had to deal with systemic racism for Police for a very long time.

I take a more nuanced approach. In this instance, they're wrong, in something else, they might be right. But either way, their organisation is getting views and mentions in the media and on social media, so the article is reaching it's intended audience.

His career is done anyway.

I thought Dave Chappele's take was pretty good: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.new...658134%3famp=1

I couldn't see the Newsweek article. Was that Chappelle's take from two years ago? It was funny,

Amen to that.

The Minneapolis trial of the officer who purportedly mistakenly shot a driver is in progress. This looks like a very similar case to the Oscar Grant shooting on BART in Oakland back in 2009.

"The 26-year police veteran was training a new officer when the duo pulled Wright over for having expired licence plate tags and an air freshener hanging from the car’s rearview mirror, according to the criminal complaint."

"She can then be heard saying, “I grabbed the wrong [expletive] gun.” Wright drove off, but his vehicle collided with a concrete barrier moments later. He died at the scene."

The US is just mad on guns. Yesterday saw a news report where police were mistakenly arresting a Hertz renter at gunpoint (for allegedly stealing a rental car). Stack society with guns and gun deaths will ensue.

And coming full circle, Derek Chauvin is expected to plead guilty to federal charges:

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot — who last year proposed cutting $80 million from her city’s police budget — publicly pleaded with the feds on Monday to bolster the ranks of her city’s cops amid a surge in shootings and homicides.

Lightfoot called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to send agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to the Windy City for a six-month crackdown on illegal guns.

“We cannot continue to endure the level of violence that we are now experiencing,” Lightfoot
.

“I feel the urgency every day.”

The desperation move made Lightfoot — who’s said she opposes the “defund the police” movement — the second big-city Democratic mayor in days to announce dramatic steps to restore law and order as crime spirals out of control.

Wonder who will be next.

Given all the guns that are illegally obtained in states like Indiana and brought over the state lines to Chicago, it makes a lot of sense for the Justice Dept to get involved.

Setting aside the ever-ascending murder rate in Chicago, the feeling of lawlessness in the city has been palpable in recent months. Smash-and-grab, armed robbery, general violence have all increased dramatically. It was clear something was wrong last August when several hundred people descended on Michigan Avenue and smashed up hundreds of stores and stole carloads of stuff. Watch videos of that incident, it's insane. People had rented box trucks to load up with stuff. Store employees were beaten, stores were smashed up with incredible violence, the police were completely overwhelmed and powerless. This is the premier tourist destination in the city and one of the most famous shopping districts in the world. I've personally never seen mass chaos, violence and thievery on that scale.

At the time, Lightfoot and the police chief talked tough but in subsequent months absolutely nothing happened. A few token arrests were made but it was obvious the police were expending little effort to do anything. Allowing this kind of lawlessness and mayhem just increases the lawlessness and mayhem. We can't have this. It's really sad to see the city falling apart like this.
