As far as I have read and heard the consensus seems to be that regime change rarely works for the country on the receiving end. The "western world" is fond of meddling in societies and countries it does not understand. De-stabalising them. Shifting balances of power . It really needs to stop and look to itself and the way it treats its own people. That's not so good either.
yes, you'd think by now we'd realise that whatever our intentions, Western intervention causes more harm than good I just about every case, in fact I can't think of any good outcomes.

Why do people get angry about it then? They're just words describing feelings.

Are they not letting the people leave the hotel rooms so basically treating them like a prison?

While I am not sure I would want to go back to Afghanistan I am not in their shoes, but I could not maintain sanity being locked in a hotel room either, they should at least have the freedom to go outside and walk around, the article isn't making it clear if the people are being forced to remain inside their rooms, if so that is not acceptable.

Well I am pretty sure if that was the case they would have said so I took it that they wanted houses, that seemed to be the focus.

Not sure refugees being processed are allowed out. HO wouldn't want the risk of them disappearing before being thoroughly checked.

Sharbat Gula whose name may not be recognized but most have probably seen the photo of her on National Geographic from 1980's of a young afghan girl with green eyes, she has been granted refugee status by Italy and has arrived in Rome.

Another side of the asylum seeker conundrum. The resources of the UK (housing, health care, etc), like many countries, are severely stretched. Hotels, B&Bs and hostels have been used for many years as emergency housing, often for long periods while occupants await permanent housing. Not ideal but at least they are safe from persecution and I imagine their conditions beat living in a tent near Calais, faced with a dangerous sea crossing.
