By "quality" do you mean richer? Not sure being rich equates to being a better "quality" of Brit. Mind you, you'd never catch me in Fuengirola, Cómpeta is still so much nicer than that place. I know someone (and so do you!) that moved up above Árchez and sold in Cómpeta as he'd had enough of the Brit scene there.

The 'quality' of expats is a valid point, whether rich or poor, but don't you have to offset that against the 'quality' of the locals? A difficult one, for me at least.
I was in Benidorm on Sunday, not entirely through choice, where I met some resident expats and witnessed some terrible behaviour. The usual Spanish gippos and conmen were out in force on every street corner, from the Pea men, fake jewellery sellers through to gangs of pickpockets.
The expats on their part got drunk and fought in the streets, disgusting people with beer bellies and tattoos, and that's just the women.
Am I exaggerating? I wish I was.

Re: Youths charged for cómpeta murder
Tempting as it is, I'm going to refrain and try and get back to the thorny subject of integration. The murdered man in Competa was a resident who took his teenage son and son's friend to a local venue frequented by Spanish teenagers from the area.
An attempt at integration, or merely some young people wanting to meet others where they were staying? Whichever it was, it went horribly wrong.
Integration can easily go wrong for many reasons, if the incomers tries too hard to push himself into the local community, it will upset people; equally, if he makes no effort to integrate, it will upset people.
Older incomers have it a lot easier, they are not perceived as much of a threat and can be welcomed; but younger foreigners are here to compete for jobs (and 'crumpet'), which will lead to friction, especially in what is still a 'macho' society, especially in rural parts.
That appears to be what happened in the Competa case, young foreigners chatting up local women, to the disgust of the local machos, in an atmosphere of drink and drugs, in the early hours of the morning, with no visible policing for many miles.
It could happen anywhere in the world, and does.
(I'm of an older age group and I'm careful, but I've had to stop going into a local Spanish cafe because the owner's wife paid me too much attention and the enraged husband challenged me, innocent as I was).

Según se señala en el auto de procesamiento, la víctima se encontraba de vacaciones junto con su mujer, sus dos hijos y tres amigos, de los que cuatro eran menores de edad, en un apartamento alquilado de la localidad.

Re: Youths charged for cómpeta murder
JNK I visit all times of the year as I enjoy in particular the calamari at the Rustico. I agree it is much quieter in the winter like most places and having a little village house in Sayalonga am quite used to the Moto's (I am a motorcyclist myself but why cant the Spanish use normal silencers) however in Competa it seems that the brow of the hill by Rustico/church is used as a launching platform for them on their descent. As I say I do like the village and it is a shame this tragic incident has blighted it. However speculating as to the the reason or failings within it are not for me let the courts find out what happened and deal with the offenders, a very tragic incident and no matter what was the cause of it no one should lose their life over jealousy or because they are of a particular race, but unfortunately it happens in Spain as well as anywhere else in the world.

Also ex forces, but I never felt to need to have tattoos, and thankfully, my son who is still in the military, never did either. Nor the missus!
