Would you like a working holiday ?

Hallo. We have a small house, in the Alpujarra, which needs some maintenance work doing. Mostly cosmetics - like clean, repaint & plaster. Would suit anyone strong, capable, tough etc. Bed & board supplied in exchange, anytime now to summer '11. (SNIP)

As Concierges for the Spanish section of BE we would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let us know if you need any further help.

I would really caution about putting your personal details on a public forum though, such as your telephone number

OK - thanks. But we'll try it for a few days & then, maybe, revert to email.

A few days will probably be too late :);)
Also, you put your email up on a public forum then it gets harvested by spambots and you get spammed forever :)

Definitely edit your post! If you want free labour in exchange for accommodation why not advertise with http://www.wwoof.org/

As it's your post, within a certain timeframe you get 'edit' among the line of things at the bottom if you click into the post. May be too late now, though - you'll have to appeal to the mods, I guess - not sure of their powers however!
A further however - their advice is (generally;)) worth listening to.......

I haven't been a woofer but the donkey sanctuary in Nerja uses that organisation to find volunteers. I think it works quite well, particularly if you get experienced woofers with skills. Of course you have to offer them something that fits the aims of the Woofing ideology, its not just an excuse for slave labour :)

Re: Would you like a working holiday ?

My neighbours use wwoofers all the time. We're thinking of trying them out as well.
Their advice is to only make short-term arrangements at first, max one week, then if you don't get along or the wwoofer is lazy you don't have to put up with them for long. They also say you have to really keep an eye on what they are doing because they will skive off at every opportunity, so you really have to be on their back all the time.
They sometimes have the same wwoofer returning time and again and now that they have got to know some of them they arrange longer-term stays, sometimes up to a month.

The work the wwoofers do varies from gardening, land-clearance, simple building work, basically anything that needs doing that doesn't require many skills. The owners just have to provide accommodation and meals. Quite a good system really.
