The tax and customs guys are not stupid and they have seen it all before.

Eventually they will spot you and the fines can be quite severe.

Do it legally or don’t do it at all.

You are right and even the most prominent person can get caught, be it Messi, Shakira and so on. They don't mess around in Spain and it's not like here where farmers get away with things.

3:57 – snikpoh - “After 3 months in Spain, you MUST register as resident which in turn probably means you are also tax resident.”

6:03 pm - Bomber Harris - “You are confusing Schengen rules with EU freedom of movement rules. The first limits non EU citizens to only spending 90 days in 180 in the Schengen area. The second allows EU member states to require EU citizens exercising their free movement rights to register their presence in another EU member state if they've been there for 3 months, Spain does require such registration.

6:07 pm Notdunroamin - “The 3 month rule applies to everyone including other EU citizens, always has, it just isn't rigorously enforced. Before Brexit Brits used to enjoy the same 'blind eye'.”

To the OP, don't play fast and loose with the Spanish tax man...!

If you think HMRC are bad, you ain't seen nothing yet!
