Question Work contracts / pre-contracts?

I've read in some places that in Spain when you are offered a job they will give you a pre contract, and then a regular contract that doesn't come into action until the first day of work. And because of this, if you were unable to or simply changed your mind about working at the company you could simply tell them you changed your mind up until the last day with no legal problems.

Does anyone know if this is really the case? And are there any exceptions? Especially with short, fixed contracts (2 months). Or if there needs to be some amount of notice, how much would it be? (before starting the first day of work)
