Default Wood Burning Stoves - preferably in the Alicante area or nearby

I have an open fireplace and would like to install a wood burning stove - so much easier and less messy in an apartment. Does anyone have one, and if so, can you recommend any places that supply and install them? Price guidance would also be most welcome. My fireplace is rather odd, being triangular in shape. Any information would be much appreciated.

We have a very large one which is excellent, can be adjusted to just glow all night keeping the whole house warm when we were over in Jan. However make sure that the chimney is installed properly, as ours has expanded where it goes through the ceiling, and cracked the immediate plasterwork. I believe the solution is to use heat resistant plaster, freely available in builders merchants, and get a clip on collar to mask the fine gap needed to allow for expansion. One more on the jobs list!!!

As poolounger says they're brilliant and keep the house warm....just make sure you allow for the expansion of the flue.
unfortunately I don't know anywhere in Alicante myself but I'm sure there'll be shops that sell estufas around Alicante.
In our town there are a couple of household appliance shops that also sell a large selection of estufas, lovely designs and differing sizes. I found this site for Alicante area..

Sorry I can't be of more help,
Mary

Thanks, poollounger and thanks for the link, maryg. I've checked it out and it certainly looks interesting. I've taken note of your comments regarding "expansion" problems.

None of the sites seem too keen on giving any info on prices, I've noticed (which rings a few alarm bells!). Do you remember how much yours cost (approx.)? And was the installation charge exorbitant?

The local shops to us (inland Murcia) prices were around 195 euros

Good heavens, really? A friend of mine bought one in the UK around ten years ago and including installation it cost about £1000.

Inland Murcia isn't a problem as it isn't that far away from where I am.

" Our
cheapest insert cost € 1.244,-- including fitting and v.a.t."

A quote from our nearest firm that specialises in this sort of thing. Not that I asked about inserts, but never mind!

Bit of useless info-here in NZ $3,000 is about right for buying and installation--sort of in line with UK--I think possibly the 195 Euro bit may be just a very basic straightforward installation charge--I.E no problems setup

Be interesting to see further results.

I'm over there in three weeks and will investigate further, tooanfrom, and doubtless bore you all witless as to how it will cost a million pounds sterling to buy and install!

We're over in 3 weeks too....I'll double check the 195Euro price.....maybe that was what it worked out in £'s , or maybe I read it wrong and it was 1950 euros....sorry if I got your hopes up! I definately will check it out as we need one too.

I emailed several companies that have online sites in English, but so far only one has got back to me - Dirk Smit in Altea. I shall go and see what they can really offer when I'm over in a couple of weeks or so, and keep you posted.

are the only two companies that I've heard back from, so far. I think they're both worth contacting, for those in the Alicante/Valancia area who are after sourcing a woodburning stove.

OK. Recent news. Have just had woodburning stove installed. I have a very strange fireplace, triangular, which upped the price of about 1000euros to a little over double that. To be fair, it was the size and shape of the fireplace that did it, I don't think they were blagging. Dirk Smit did it (the company, not an individual), and I have to say that they did a good job of it. Very dilligent about tidying up after themselves, and when the chimney proved to be obstinant, they spent a lot of time sorting out the flue, which suggested they weren't going to be beaten.

It's as warm as toast here now, lovely!
