winter rental
Hi Help required!
My 55 year old brother is recovering from lung cancer (part of lung removed). He struggles in the UK with damp cold weather in winter. He is thinking of renting for 3 months during worst of winter, ie end Nov 2021 to middle Feb 2022. Ideally with 2 bed so someone may pop out from the UK to visit him during this time.
Any type accommodation, ideally not too far from some lakes as he like to fish. Not a holiday area but a friendly expat residential area. Must be ground floor or with a lift and parking.
Does anyone have any recommendations, suggestions or have any knowledge of any rentals or rental companies that are trustworthy please.
Thank you

If you let me know what country your brother would like to spend the winter months in, I will move this thread across to the relevant forum.

Re: winter rental
I would have suggested Spain or Portugal, unfortunately the UK left the EU so that has made things a lot more difficult. In fact for Portugal, a number of UK travel firms did do bookings of up to 3 months in the winter slack holiday periods at ridiculous prices, I suspect we will not be over Covid by this time next year so any suggestions will have to be guesses.

Don't forget it can be extremely cold even here in that time slot - I would suggest Tenerife where the temps would be warmer.

Re: winter rental
I find it often feels much colder in the evening than it does in UK. Possibly because of the greater temperature drop.
I find it difficult (and more expensive) to heat during winter than in UK. Possibly due to poor insulation.
You might want to check cost of private health insurance? I find it prohibitively expensive for those with a pre-existing health condition

Re: winter rental
Realistically, if he will be there on his own as your post suggests, might it be wise to choose somewhere with easy access to good medical care should the need arise?

Re: winter rental
You can often get quite cheap rates for long stays in hotels where it would be warmer inside during the winter evenings and probably have company.

Re: winter rental suggestions
Thank you everyone. He is no longer having treatment (surgery and radiotherapy over 2 years ago). He manages well himself at home now with no assistance. Its mainly some warmer days he is looking for - well warner than UK anyway. Hence Costa del Sol area but he is just looking for and small town ish area with some expats around. He wants to try hotel/B&B first ideally in an area then move on to renting. Its just where to start. He doesn't want the longer flight to Tenerife I'm afraid. Also, should he not be well I can get flight to Spain from somewhere in UK quickly if needed.
Any suggestions?

Presumably you/he have visited the area and perhaps could share the locations and why you liked them.
