Will my scissors work in Spain?

What with my small electricals, telephone I had almost forgotten to ask about this and of course the corkscrew.

I suppose it depends on whether the corkscrew is manual or right hand-drive.

Then again, can I still use my trowel, rake, pushchair. Where do I buy the adaptors.

Where can I find someone on this site who will bring my household contents over for free, not make me drive and let me have free use of their villa (only in the very best part of spain) and free use of their Mercedes or better yet tank as I don't see why I should have to drive on the left and that would solve the problem.

Yes, you can find the answers to all of these questions on this site (or if you can't be bothered to look at nasty lists just start a new thread).

Great isn't it!!!

No, you can't use any of those items as they don't speak Spanish and won't know how to interact with Spanish products. The corkscrew will be unable to cope with the really good Spanish wines and will get all silly when breathing in the bouquet of the wine and bend at the knees, rendering itself useless.

I thought I had that covered as I had been giving them Spanish language lessons for at least a year. Now I've read I probably gave them the lessons in the wrong dialect for where we are going.

If I have to buy new electricals, do I have to pay black money for white goods?

Sorry but they will be all for RHD, and we are LHD over here, just visit your local skip or freecycle centre, then you can buy proper ones here.

Don't knock it... You'll find people on here are so friendly and helpful. One's managed to get my bicycle converted from right to left hand drive for just 1300 euros, excluding the cost of replacing the light on the front. Apparently he's saving me over 8000 euros in import tax in the process - and all I have to do is cycle down to Alicante and catch the ferry to Algeria twice a week for the next seven years. ;)

Another is helping to install my satellite TV system. Apparently - as of 2008, you'll be able to pick up BBC1 and CBeebies using a bent piece of coat hanger and a couple of Nokia mobile phone batteries wired in series. Can't wait!

It's not always assuming that nothing works in Spain and that nothing is available in Spain. Sometimes it's assuming too much.

I moved out here just after Christmas one year. On opening my Christmas presents I discovered that not just one but two female relatives thought Boots gift cards would work over here. They were amazed when I said I'd have to spend them before leaving.

Some of us moved over to Spain with half a ton of toiletries and related products, presumably on the assumption that you probably couldn't buy deoderant / head and shoulders / etc over here. :o

Funnily enough, we're not the only ones who stocked up - some friends of ours came over with a years supply of toothpaste and toothbrushes for the family - "it's like we thought the Spanish don't brush their teeth".
