So you are saying that I can buy a leg of lamb for that price and chops will be the same price.

It seems a strange way of selling lamb.

Maybe as someone said they are killed too young. I used to buy my lamb from Morrisons in Gib, was only the New Zealand frozen stuff but it tasted good. Here I buy it from the farm shop and it is their own.
Rare is the thing of Spain that to you like ...

My Cousin tells me that leg of lamb was on offer this week at Alcampo at 9.95 per kilo. Chops were more expensive.

I checked the prices in Eroski today. Legs were €10.75, shoulders €12.95 and those skinny chops were €19.95.

Tesco charge £7/kg for a proper leg - 3kg. Two of those weigh about the same as a scrawny Spanish sheep.

its the quality of grass in the UK
unless you are in N Wales where IIRC they still have problems with Chernobyl fallout.

We were in there today and the offer has finished. You spent too much time on the Internet and not doing running around purchasing bargains.
The lamb was Welsh.
The Spanish lamb is nowSee the Eroski attachment

Chuleteado is chop and filete is a sort of steak It seems that it is far more expensive down south.

Still here is one from Gadis. A bit more per kilo. See the Gadis attachment
But as you can see you can get any cut you want. We would ask the butcher to cut that meat up into smaller cuts. This lamb is Spanish.
So at 8.95€ that is around 7.90 U.K. pounds is still a comparable price; plus less travelling time!

Before we got mixed up with this common market crap, I can just about recall lambs the size of donkeys marching into the auction ring.
I could almost have saddled one up and rode it there.
Big juicy lamb chops about the size of T-bones back then.

Then it all changed and we had to downsize to the level of the French and a few others.
Decent full grown lambs were downgraded and penalised from that time on.

Dick, its never been "common", the uk has to accept anything from the eu and the commonwealth as well. France has a record of dumping (remember apples?), we buy wine in Spain at €1.50-2.00 a bottle that the likes of Tesco are selling at £6.99.

if it is possible to ship lamb (or anything else) from the other side of the world, with the rising cost of transport, and still undercut the uk price, either the uk is over charging or someone is dumping their over production.

wonder if there are any aussies or expats sitting on the outside who can tell us what the prices are out there?

A leg of lamb in NZ is about €20/kg - more than either the UK or Spain.

Look at the size of those chops!!
