Where in Spain to move too?!

Hi all and thanks in advance for any help!

I am currently looking at moving to Spain but have no idea on where... I have chosen the country partly down to loving the language (although yet to learn and will!) close proximity to the UK to stay in touch with family (especially as they get older) and the ease of moving from the UK (hopefully still post Brexit).

My main reasons to move are a healthier lifestyle, I want to be able to be outdoors much more and closer to nature, to have a year round tan would also be preferable ;)

I am 33 years old and on my own so this will be a move completely on my tod! Living near a beach is preferable and I am looking into starting my own business (I currently run one in the UK) or staying with a foot in of my current business.

Ideally I want to be somewhere that has stuff going no but not too manic at the same time, a balance would be the best way to describe.

I know many people move to a country due to falling in love with it, that for me is St Lucia but I know at this time in life it would not be practical to live there! If anyone can advise or give my ideas/places I can look into that would be very much appreciated!

Many Thanks

Kat

Hi Kat
Having recently taken the step of moving to Spain after many years of travelling up and down the coast trying to find the area that was "just right" I can highly recommend the area between Alicante and Valencia which has similar vistas to the good old UK, green and stunning. Try to look around the Gandia, Denia, Javea areas as this seems to have more English speaking people so until you get to converse in Spainish means you are not isolated. I'm sure many people will offer their advice but only when you visit somewhere will you truly know.
Best of luck.

Hi Kat, I'm moving out end of this month. I too am on my own but have found a delightful area on the Costa Calida. It's between Alicante and Murcia airports, the Murcia region. and part of the Mar Menor - a natural lagoon with salts, minerals that people come and bathe in the waters. And the mud - which apparently is very therapeutic. there are some expats but it is still very Spanish. Beaches to die for - check out Lo Pagan, Santiago de la Ribera. flamingos, a weekly fruit and veg market on a Monday, some gorgeous restaurants, fresh fish, lovely people, What more could you want? Im going to have to learn the language as well, I have a couple of friends here - one Spanish who lives in Murcia and the other English but been in Spain for 25 + years and I'm looking at continuing my business once there and settled. . contact me for more info. I'd love to show you what I've discovered there. looking forward to hearing from you

Myself and my hubby have been planning moving over next year, I was looking around the Malaga province, however I was informed today id be better off in the Costa Tropical area as it has a micro climate therefore is warmer throughout the winter, having arthritis being why im leaving the UK to get away from the wet and the cold. I now need more research so Kat id give this place a go if its warmth in the winter months you will be after.
Have a nice evening
Carol

I live on Costa Tropical, love it. but bear in mind you need depending which part of us you go to you will need up to 90 mins to Málaga Airport more or less, if on coast, takes us 1. 45 from Albuñol. but is all motorway after many years of waiting.

Sounds so nice...we're planing to move to Spain in Feb 2017 and initially thought about Valencia-Alicante regions, but I think we'll change to Murcia as we have 2 kids and we don't speak Spanish (although trying to learn it) and we want kids to learn "just" Spanish....what do you think about Murcia now when you're there? thanks

Take a look at Cabo (Cabo Roig) it's 20 mins from Murcia airport and Heathrow (easyJet) will be flying there from 2017 (lucky me I live between Heathrow and Gatwick)
The climate is fantastic I am there between Christmas and New Year where I was sun bathing last year!
Good luck with your purchase it will be fantastic wherever you end up!

But why do British people only ever mention the area between Alicante & Valencia or futher South. Does Spain just start and stop there? Even above Valencia you will find green and stunning all the way up when there's not a drought.

LOL freezing. Even Barcelona had the same temps as Alicante yesterday and looking at current data there's only a 1 or 2 degree difference during day. It might be 4 degrees colder during night but I doubt you'll be sitting outside with a t-shirt in Alicante either when it's around 10c.

Moses, what about in January and February, do you think anyone in Barca is on the beach?

Plenty of people still on the beach and cold is a releative term. If you look at the daily mean Barcelona has the same temps as Alicante in January February. The only difference is that high temps and low temps vary and there can be a 2 or 3 degrees difference when it comes to highs and lows. It's hardly life changing when low temps are 7 in Alicante and 5 in Barcelona ;). Sunshine hours are only slightly higher during winter in Alicante (max 1) and even sea temps are similar as it's the same sea.

Putting a slightly different slant on the temperature/weather thing. If you visit somewhere like Benidorm at Christmas and New Year you will see various modes of dress. Brits on holiday are in summer/beach clothes, Spanish people are in full winter warm clothes and Brits who live here permanently are usually dressed somewhere in between.
