Re: Where to move to in Spain
The tangents seemed pretty relevant to me, usually the posters on here are worried about what would happen if their language skills are not up to scratch, but they have every intention of improving, wether they achieve it is another matter.
As the OP is adamant that he does not want to learn Spanish, the forum members were just giving their take and personal experience. Some make very tragic reading, ans should be an eye opener to the things that are taken for granted when conversing in ones own language. |
Re: Where to move to in Spain
The OP appears to have been trolling but at least some useful advice has been posted as a result of this thread.

Re: Where to move to in Spain
We have an apartment in Los Altos, 4 miles from Torrevieja. The majority of people who live there are English with a few Spanish & Swedish. If you were only going for a short period of time you could get away without speaking Spanish, however once you go further afield into the surrounding towns you would need a little bit of spanish, even if just to order a cup of coffee and a sandwich. On the actual urbanization all the bars and restaurants are english speaking. Like other postings, when there are emergencies that's when the problems arise.

Re: Where to move to in Spain
I hope the OP falls flat on his face, I have no sympathy for anyone who goes to a country and makes NO effort to learn the language of that country. I know a lot of EX-Pats are not the brightest sparks, but surely they must realise how easier their lives could become. As people have commentated, real life emergency situations occur, and you have to rely on someone else because of your own stupidity.

They don't like it up 'em. |
Re: Where to move to in Spain
I don't know about anybody else but when I first went to Spain and managed to order my first meal and drinks in Spanish I felt elated, it made me want to learn the language much more and I found it very surprising how quick I picked it up.

Re: Where to move to in Spain
"Errrr and your purpose of posting ? Not related to the OP post at all. At least we are talking about events that have happened in Spain and are relevant if you have no or little spanish. "
Relevant!? OP does not want to learn Spanish. He could not be clearer, he is not interested in the rights or wrongs of this choice. "Sorry but, this is my first question on this good forum and so I thought my original questions were pretty specific.... if you cannot answer my questions directly I would prefer if you didn't respond at all .....it’s time-wasting, simplistic & dictatorial all at the same time." And I know...I´m wasting my time now. Just found OP´s direct attitude a nice change. You´ll be glad to know I won´t be reading this topic anymore. |
Re: Where to move to in Spain
The thing is that if this post and every other was answered "really directly" the forum would end up with thouseands of posts of about 8 replies each if that.
Eg. OP. How much will it cost to get from Alicante airport to Benidorm? Cheers Tom. reply 1 taxi 40 euros. reply 2 Bus 6 euros each. OP. Thank you very much for your direct answer. Cheers Tom.:rofl: |
Re: Where to move to in Spain
Maybe Rays post from a few years ago should be put in a read first before posting sticky.
