To be honest I don't understand why anyone could have problems sourcing powered or whole spices in Spain. I have no clue about Portugal, but I am guessing it is the same.

The shops that sell them are Indian or Bangladeshi and they are to be found in all major cities. They sell a whole assortment ingredients.

There are also lots of Chinese in Spain and with that comes Chinese shops which sell the typical ingredients for their cuisine. This normally includes a wide selection of spices.

You just have to hunt these shops out.

Not sure what quantities of spices the OP wants?

Peter, what weigh of spices do you go through on an annual basis and of which ones?

My good friends business can help with anything like this. Ex professional boxer Sanjeev Singh Sahota, he owns Hindustani Foods. Located in Alicante, Malaga and Madrid

if you want to buy in bulk he’s your man

I am sure your friend could help me but My problem is Balti, Biryani, Korma, Roghan Josh Sumac and Asafoetida" Hing " and more EU suppliers don't look to cater for the UK Expats.

My two suppliers in the Malaga area can't help nor can my Supplier in Hungary..
I am grateful to all who have replied but my search goes on.

Thanks to you all

Peter

But Peter that is a list of Indian dishes and we all know that!

Are you preparing commercial quantities of curries, or is it just for home use?

This must be a wind-up as the person (company) that Tom provided would supply everything that the OP is looking for no matter if he is a brit, Irish or Ukrainian...

Not a wind up at all.

Peter can no longer buy from UK wholeales outlets so he is searching for his supplies in Europe. Very simply put he does not need these spices for his own use nor is he planning to cook up loads of curries etc. He sells herbs and spices so needs to be able to bulk buy in order to offer his customers a good range of items.

Edit: Look on the last line of his signature and it will become crystal clear.

This got me thinking. Brexit has caused problems shipping from UK. So which EU country has a good sized Indian community....? I think Germany, so I tried Amazon.... Check this out.... (I often shop around Amazon sites as prices vary, and of course EU delivery is easy)

https://www.amazon.de/s?k=indische+g..._ts-doa-p_3_16

Then a search in Germany. Gave this

https://www.india-express-food.de/gewuerze/?p=1

The search term in German is Indische Gewürzein case you want to check other options

Does no one bother to read the original post? He specifically is looking for 1kg bags, not small domestic quantities.

Ooops missed that...... 'my bad'
... But its not totally unusual to jump into a thread without always reading the 1st post... It happens all the time. So I'm not at all upset. After all I tried to help.

With the search term in German and what looks like a reasonable selection over there ... 'Google is your friend' and perhaps this is a good start ... For searching for kilo bags in Germany

There is a new Spice shop in Vila Nova de Cacela. This a village on the N125 between Monte Gordo and Tavira. A friend has been to the shop and got everything he wanted for Indian and Chinese food.
If you go into the village from the N125 at the crossroads the shop is a few yards up the road that goes to Monte Rei Golf Its on the right. I will try and get more details.

Useful for those who live near the border

We had a few Moroccan small fruit and veg shops in Peníscola. I'd get my spices there, including coriander seeds. Also tahini which I couldn't find anywhere
