Default What's 'no junk mail' in Spanish

Hi guys. I want to put a friendly notice on my letterbox in Mallorca,to stop the hundreds of junk mail items we receive. I know online translators will do the job, but would rather a 'real world' translation please. Thanks in advance.

When I lived in Spain (always in a block of flats) there was a special container for 'publicidad' alongside the mailboxes rather than a notice.

You could try something like 'no se admite publicidad' or 'por favor, no dejar publicidad, gracias / se ruega no dejar publicidad gracias' or have a look here for ideas https://www.google.com.np/search?q=n...w=1366&bih=613

Hi Rachelk. Thanks for that, I've used one of your suggestions. I didn't want to put a notice that sounded rude or too direct, as some translations can. Cheers.

You could also try "correo basura". Although many English IT words are used in Spanish, the Real Academia hasn't (yet) got an entry for 'junk mail'.

I often see signs that simply say "No publicidad".

Worth a try, but I seriously doubt the posters will take any notice of your notice.

It is not junk mail that annoys me but that I get mail for half the street. I have ticked the required boxes etc returned them and explained to the post office etc. Next time I go back there is another load filling up my box.

Dave I believe you are correct especially a foreigner that is away a lot so you don't get it back too soon. Mind doesn't help that on the street we actually have 3 number 23's one is in a block of flats but they don't put that on, the other is 23 Baja a lower level apt no where near me and mine. But as you say they don't get mine I get theirs.

Almost correct. We have a letterbox on the gatepost, it has never had mail delivered to it. For a couple of years we were handed our mail by another expat in the village. When we asked why it was suggested we get a mailbox on the wall of the village hall with our name on it.

We did that and lo and behold our mail started arriving in it on a twice weekly basis. It seems that the postie even though they drive past our gate, can't be bothered to use it.
