The People have spoken. Essex man, the most average British person in the UK has voted, with a massive majority, for UKIP to get us out of Europe.

It gives expats like me three years to pack, which should be quite long enough. A lot will leave long before 2017.

90,000 British expats left in 2013, one in ten of the expat population in Spain. The numbers for 2014 will be of nightmarish proportions.

Am I exaggerating? Not according to the Se Vende signs in my neighbourhood, the place is littered with them.

It is difficult for a lot of people to return to the UK at the moment financially, however if more do elect to leave then property in expat areas of Spain could fall even lower and comparable property prices in Uk could rise.

For half a second I though you wre being serious.
Yes a turn coat sitting Tory MP was elected standing for UKIP in a peculiar constituency with a high elderly population combined with one of the poorest areas in the UK.
The turn out was much lower than the General election ( the only one that matters ).
The new MP has already deviated from the majority of UKIP spokespersons by stating that UKIP is a party for all Britains of any background race or religion, how would that go down with those who voted for him.
As for the EU referendum the result is meaningless unless of course UKIP are a majority party in which case the for sale signs in Spain would be outnumbered by a factor of tens of thousands in the UK as those with any sense get out .

No wonder we have such sensationalist media. It's so easy to get people all flummoxed with a mere suggestion.

Presuming you're a GB citizen and already a legal resident of Spain (or any other EU member state), if GB leaves the EU, they're not gonna just kick you out. Period. It's not that simple.

Unless of course you're NOT a legal resident of Spain (or any other EU member), in that case it won't matter much if GB leaves the EU or not.

In fact, aside from the sensationalist rhetoric and the expectable changes in the political and trade relationships, it won't really matter all that much anyway.

Besides, it's not likely to happen, because all GB wants is leverage to negotiate concessions from the EU. The threat of a referendum plus the rise in popularity of UKIP puts GB in a good position to get what it wants - and it will.

So relax.

I want the UK to be part of a reformed EU. We're already in a better position that most because of our own currency. However we need to pull back additional powers.
If UKIP has focused the minds of Tories for this to happen, then that's good with me.

The UK's status should not be underestimated. If the Tories win the next election, Brussels will undoubtedly use some scare tactics (as they did with Scotland). But at the end of the day they will have to face reality and take our demands seriously. A unique opportunity for us.

Labour and its inherent dogma would deny the UK this opportunity.

I for one am of the same opinion as Lutonlad. The fact is there is a large number of people in the UK not happy with current situation re EU. Yes some of their views may well come from the Daily Mail or similar . However they are all potential voters, also the EU has changed drasticly since the last vote on it, Tony Blair no doubt with his eye on becoming EU president gave in to them too easy. The voice of expats as we know is not a vote winner for any political party in the UK. I think if serious negotiations are conducted with a serious threat of possibility of leaving then there is hope for change that would satisfy most UK voters. Mind of course depends who is holding power after next May.

It may not be that simple to kick us out, but not being in the EU would take some important rights away from us, and may make us want to leave of our own accord.

The most basic rights conferred on all members of the EU is the freedom to work and live anywhere within the EU. I won't bother with running through all the other rights, like reciprocal health care, because it would take too long.

And we're sticking our heads in the sand when we refuse to acknowledge a Europe-wide increase of nasty nationalism and creeping dislike of foreigners.

It could be that when we eventually lift our heads out of the sand we will find a Se Vende sign stuck on our bums.

Ukip is a classic example of the unpleasant trend you mention.

Who could blame the UE for digging its heels in when it see the anti EU, Immigration policies being promoted by UKIP.

Coalition is the word.

Sweet dreams because it's coming.

And my congratulations to UKIP and Nigel Farage. It's been a long time coming but well worth the wait.

Have you been following the quality press and current affairs progs.

The coalition that is being discussed is another Con .Lib one.
The Libs will lose their shirts but will still have enough seats 30+ to be the party that decides which of the other two will form a government.

Labour may well be the party with the largest number of MP.s but a combined Con/Lib government could and lets hope it does will be the next goverment.
No coalition will mean a minority government and that will see the end of a renegotiation of EU membership and any chance of a referendum.
UKIP will join the nationalist parties on the " billy no mates " seats.
