Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Nice one, just seen a bunch private messages that my posts are moved to Spain
This comes so out of the blue? |

Why goodnight? All the threads are still available, nothing's changed, your subscriptions to the threads will still work. There obviously wasn't enough traffic on the Ayamonte board to make having a separate one worthwhile. It's quite normal for Admin to close and redirect traffic when there's not much activity happening on a board.
Ive also got a load of messages in my inbox all saying the same thing, (I suppose, I'm not going to read them all...)... No-one wants that.... So right now, like the other posts, Im not sûre why this was done - though this may be a reasonable guess.... |
Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
I'm disappointed by this

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
OH NO !!! There are always posts on it and particularly of late as we have been discussing the tests etc. Please admin do bring us back. Thank you

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Hi Folks
The tech guys have been at work and it looks like they did not inform Bob the Site Lead in time for him to provide you all with an announcement. All of the Ayamonte threads are now within the main forum so nothing is lost. Many, many times the threads in Ayamonte and the main forum are duplicated, issues such as Covid, travel, residency, driving licences etc are national not local so it makes sense for them all to be under one roof. Sub forums have a tendency to segregate members which is not what BE is about, we are all living in Spain so having one forum makes perfect sense. Ayamonte is a very small part of Spain so there is no clear reason to maintain a separate area in the forum. I know that you are all disappointed to see it removed but I hope that you will all continue to contribute in the various threads. Rosemary |

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
So, How do I now find previous threads of information? Also, how do I ask for local information? We used to be able to get VERY HELPFUL local information via the Ayamonte Forum. ?????

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
OMG There are 1117 pages in the Spain Forum - they have to be kidding!!!!! How can I find what I am looking for????? I suspect people like me will abandon this platform and revert to Facebook Groups for local advice. Maybe that is what they want.
Anyway, I'll give it a try here. Can anyone local to Ayamonte advise me on changing my Green Residency Card for the TIE. I've looked at all the UK Govt. advice and tried to follow the instructions and FAILED! I hate failing but don't seem to be able to put all the pieces of admin together... So, has anyone used a local Gestor to complete the process? Can anyone recommend someone, how much will it likely cost (not the fee for the card which is 12€) and am I best to wait until September when all the holidays are over. Thank in advance to anyone who can guide me through the process. |

If you start your own thread with your question (it's likely to be missed tucked away in this thread), I'm sure people will be able to help. HTH & good luck. |
Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Thanks. I've started my own thread.

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Maybe if you have a local question you just put Ayemonte in the title. The Search and Advance Search work well and if you've posted in a thread, you'll likely be subscribed to it and so it'll show up in your Subscribed list.

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
I was thinking it might be a good idea to put "Ayamonte" as the first word in any new posting
|
Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Not a bad idea generally. In many instances it ca n be very helpful knowing the area someone is posting from.

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
I’m new and have just subscribed to the Ayamonte forum. Very disappointed as was looking forward to useful info. I’m not that savvy and can’t see myself using this site any more. Too complicated for me unfortunately as only interested in things to do with and going on in Ayamonte and close surrounds.

That could be a good idea for information, but with the number of people that live in the area, if you think about replies and "chit chat" then it would soon become unwieldy. If it were renewed monthly as in "Ayamonte 2021 August" and then "Ayamonte 2021 September" etc, then it could work but I think that the mods should be asked about the feasibility Davexf |

Well its unlike the mods/admin to do this without any explanation, even out of courtesy, for a long running sub-forum...

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
I'm interested to know how some of you think the rest of the BE forum works? Ayemonte

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Where do I find my "subscribed" list please? I can't find it. Dhu!
Hopefully, all will become a bit clearer shortly. Thanks |

I use both (iOS). Sorry but I suspect I’m not subscribed to any that I didn’t start. I didn’t need to subscribe to them the way it was functioning as an AYAMONTE sub forum so it never came up as an issue before. Sorry again. |

If you did subscribe to any, then you can find them on your profile. HTH. |
Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
What Rosemary said.
Sorry for a lack of an announcement, had tech look into it, and then it happened before an announcement could be made. There really wasn't enough traffic to support a sub forum for one particular area in Spain. The search function can be used to search out a particular area of the site, and all the information is still there.

Re: What happened to Ayamonte?
Really disappointing and actually many things are not universal across Spain, most issues with maintaining/ living in a home abroad are very specific to the area and indeed Ayamonte, Isla Canela and CE share a border with Portugal so there is the added element of information relevant to Portugal. No doubt it is easier for the forum to manage, but the question is why get rid of a working forum that worked for all the participants? Is it a resource issue, advert revenue, what are the solutions rather than the problems. I have been dipping into this forum for over 10 years and while I am not a big poster, it has been a constant source of great information, generously shared. Rather than shutting it down, is it not a model for how local communities share information??

As above, no other forums have this. All countries have things that aren’t universal across the whole country and are specific to the area, but it works fine for all other forums. If, for example, somebody has a question about something in Quebec, they just start a thread in the main Canada forum with a relevant thread title. Ditto people in New Zealand who live in North & South Islands, both post under the same NZ forum. Ditto those in the US, where every state has it’s own laws and regulations, but they still all post under the one general US forum. Etc, etc. It’s just something new to get used to, but it’s still the same BE, just with Ayamonte threads now under the Spain forum instead. Nothing has really changed other than the title of where you need to post. HTH. |
