Given the thread title, I guess the idea is that Spaniards should say what the Spanish think of the English..........

Guess that would depend on semantics. Do you mean would you be able to answer in the same way as a Spaniard might? Clearly yes. Some Spaniard, somewhere, must share your views; OR you are obviously clever/empathetic/wily enough to replicate some Spaniard's ideas.

However if you mean could you answer as 'twere in the guise of a Spaniard & hope no-one noticed? Duh.

Since very few Spanish people use this forum, I'll give my 2p worth based on what I've discussed with Spanish people....

I think British people have a somewhat mixed reputation in Spain. On the one hand there is the English gentleman stereotype which Spanish people love, but on the other hand they see the "hooligans" on the news and in the tourist resorts.

I think the Spanish people who live in the British tourist and expat parts of Spain have a worse opinion on the British than those who live in the rest of Spain, mainly because of the failure of British people to mix, speak Spanish and appreciate Spanish food and culture. In that way, some Spanish people think the British are ignorant, rude, arrogant and have a superiority complex.

I've heard people say British men are ugly, but British women sexy (sexy in their behaviour rather than pretty or good looking). Spanish people love London, everyone who goes there loves it, but some find British people cold and socially awkward. What Spanish people love most about London is the number of opportunities to work and study, the qwerky shops and the nightlife.

From what I've heard from people who have studied in Britian and lived with British families, the Spanish young people couldnt believe how messy the houses were - and carpets in bathrooms and no showers or mixer taps, the food was basic and not enough rather than disgusting - and they thought the parent, child relationship was rather distint and strange. The worst thing is they said the British families didnt care about them as a young person at all, they felt a distinct lack of love from their host families which is very foreign for a Spaniard.

But hey, its nothing to worry about. 90% of Spanish people will know just about nothing about British people and have almost no opinion. And those with experience of the British will know there are nice and not-so-nice British people, just like for any nationality.
