So all these illegals that manage to land in Sicily are stopped at the borders between Italy and France before they hide in a lorry coming to the UK?

Not to mention all the sub Sahara Africans that get across to Spain - they of course go through border controls on the way to France.

I really didn't realise how efficient these border controls are. Presumably that is why the UK gets no illegal immigrants any more.

I am really relieved about that.

I shall make sure that I get my passport stamped at the Spanish/French border in the future.

Right. Go on Google street view and have a good look. There is ALWAYS a CUSTOMS post. At EVERY major border.

I fully appreciate you don't see it 'cos you're not looking, and no one looks at passports.

But next time, slow down and take a look around. Customs is ALWAYS there.

Yes Fred the post is there it is not always manned though. We had traveled many times in an out of Spain at the Irun border crossing never saw anything then one day leaving in a large white van just my son and I they appeared from nowhere pulled us over and asked to look inside. Both rear doors open side door open little dog sniffed all round including our overnight bag strapped to the safety grill small customs officer snapped the panel linings back looked in with torch. Then said OK much to my relief since we had been watched over by a big cop accompanied by and even bigger Alsatian. :rofl:

I've crossed the border countless times and never seen a customs officer yet in recent years anyway, though I believe some of their offices are still there.
Only once I got pulled in by the police near the border, but I got the impression that they were simply keeping an eye out for Basque terrorists.
