Re: Water worries

I live within the boundary of a large city, and in the past have often dreamed of that finca in the country, quiet and peaceful with more animals than humans for company, growing my own food and not disturbed by noisy traffic.

But then I read a thread like this one and reality wakes me up. I don’t know where my water comes from or how it is treated, but it comes out of the tap when I switch it on and fills my swimming pool when it runs low.

Drilling bore holes? I’d have to call in BP.

Naaah.

Think about it. You buy a finca, you get a water supply. Who would ever buy one without water?

Yes they do - I did but I knew what was involved to get the water.

I bought the plot to build on but there was an agricultural water supply running down the road outside.

Simple to connect but I had to buy a share in the cooperative to be able to connect - €3000 I seem to remember - more than the electricity connection and there is an annual standing charge of €120.

That entitles me to one hour of water every 10 days - it doesn't sound much but it comes into the deposito under huge pressure - 150,000 litres if we are lucky and only €20 so at least it is cheap.

The only alternative would have been a well and as we are high up on a ridge that could be very expensive.
