Correct me if I am wrong ?
As far as I am aware Spain is in the process of replacing all of the gully system that has delivered agricultural water not agua potable. This will be delivered via a piped system that will in the future be metered & of course the vast expense of this new system will be born by the consumer, that being the case it will not be lost on the local consumer that there are many foreigners using this water for Non Agricultural use (they will of course ignore their own) |

If you are right, where exactly did you get this information?
I asked them if it was just Valencia & they said no, all of Spain. (time will tell) |
Re: Water problem
Presumably it is a public works contract rather than private. I would be interested to know how this very old system of "acequias", using these very old channels works in respect of how they are managed and financed, not to mention the cost of maintenance.
The agricultural systems that we are on are pretty modern. Everyone is connected to a piped system with very high capacity. It isn't the only system in the area, there are many such cooperatives. Ours has about 600 members. The water comes from an underground supply about 10km away. The pumping stations must be pretty big as the annual electricity bill is €60000. |
