thinking of moving to andalucia region soon for retirement
how do you manage the water problem as some properties I notice have a license for an hours water a week
I am used to using water - like water here :)

how do you overcome this shortage?

Also look into having a bore hole for rural properties , if you do you wont be beholdant to a cooperative.

If it is anything like UK it is almost impossible to get licence to sink a new boehole and you still pay for water abstracted. It's not Gods it's not yours it's THIERS!!

Correct me if I am wrong ?

As far as I am aware Spain is in the process of replacing all of the gully system that has delivered agricultural water not agua potable.
This will be delivered via a piped system that will in the future be metered & of course the vast expense of this new system will be born by the consumer, that being the case it will not be lost on the local consumer that there are many foreigners using this water for Non Agricultural use (they will of course ignore their own)

If you are right, where exactly did you get this information?

From the civil engineering guys working in Valencia for the past year or so who are installing these huge pipes everywhere & the meter boxes adjacent to the fields.
I asked them if it was just Valencia & they said no, all of Spain. (time will tell)

Presumably it is a public works contract rather than private. I would be interested to know how this very old system of "acequias", using these very old channels works in respect of how they are managed and financed, not to mention the cost of maintenance.

The agricultural systems that we are on are pretty modern. Everyone is connected to a piped system with very high capacity. It isn't the only system in the area, there are many such cooperatives. Ours has about 600 members.

The water comes from an underground supply about 10km away. The pumping stations must be pretty big as the annual electricity bill is €60000.
