Water drinkable?

Hi...just curious .... is the tap water drinkable in Ayamonte ( or indeed Spain in general ) now?

I don't about Ayamonte but it's drinkable in Oliva, albeit absolutely disgusting.
Use bottled water for tea, just for the taste.

We are in CE and use tap water all the time' even for tea and squash; we don't think there is anything wrong with it. We also fill empty plastic bottles from the tap and put them in the fridge.

We brought most of our furniture over with us in a van and anything else came from IKEA with some odds and ends from carrefour or Leroy Merlin. I think there is a furniture shop on the industrial estate although others will know more about these. I can't get Ted into IKEA at home and it is within walking distance but here he doesn't mind a 2 1/2 hour round trip. Very strange

Hi Sandra, we have a duplex on Marina Esuri (M7) and we bought everything here. There are plenty of furniture and lighting shops around and about & you may want to consider ceiling fans in bedrooms so they would be better purchased here. Look forward to meeting you, Bryony

Ooh and whilst I think of it... have you got Wi-Fi in the apartment then or are you somewhere that does locally? .... Only reason is that when we come down we will have to have internet access for our business (boring). Sandra:)

We have been in Costa Esuri since 2005 and have never used bottled water. It is very soft so easy to lather and no scale in the kettle, coffee machine or steam iron.

Different plugs, so you will need to buy them in Spain, or use an adaptor, voltage is the same. I wouldn't bring light fittings as you would be advised to have ceiling fans in all rooms, apart from kitchen and bathroom. Takes a bit fo getting used to having plug sockets in bathrooms. We got our ceiling fans from a homewares shop, and they delivered them and fitted them FOC, while they were there we also slipped them a few Euros to move a light fitting from one room to another, saved hassle as they knew how to deal with the materials used in the ceilings etc

Broadband is extremely variable in Ayamonte. I do not think that anywhere has fiber optic access so no chance of 20-100 Mgb. Downtown close to the exchange wherever that is and providing the copper is good Telefonica will offer 10 Mgb. Futher out it is very hit and miss the Campo does not have BB at all and depend on mobile connections with data sims.

Out at CE it is very mixed close to the GC R/about Telefonica have pulled the copper through and you can get 6 Mgb if you are lucky. Futher away no mains and you depend on WiMAX with 2 Mgb or if you are very rich 6 Mgb. The alternative of data sim on 3G works well with the Portuguese masts not so reliable on Movistar. 4G is being rolled out very slowly but that has the possibility of up to 100 Mgb but who knows when?

We bought our beds downtown very close to Laguna Square but most of the other stuff we brought down over a couple of years in the S/hand van we bought for the trips kept it 3 years and sold it for what we paid for it.

Our kitchen complete with all appliances came from IKEA Sevilla and very pleased with we are too. All light fittings we bought here in either Ikea, Le Roy Merlin or Lampara. Rember all bulbs here are screw type (awful in my view) so you will not easily pick up BC lamps so you have to factor that in to your decision!

TVs, 3 Sky boxes and internet radio and various bits of Hi Fi came in the van together with all the crockery and kitchen bits and pieces although all our pans were bought in Carvello since we fitted an induction hob to save on electricity so our heavy anodised aluminium pan set was left behind.

Re: Water drinkable?

We bought in December but didn't come for the first time until April so spent the intervening period buying what we could and looking out for bargains. We brought a dining room suite and settee and chairs which we had bought in a sale. The same with towels, bed linen, pots and pans etc.

We bought light fittings including ceiling fans and brought a couple of cousins with us who could fit them but I can see the argument for buying those locally if they will fit them free of charge. We think ceiling fans are a must. Electrical equipment we bought in Spain because of the different sockets' mainly from carrefour and IKEA in Seville is worth a visit for lots of things although I was advised not to buy beds there as the sizes are different.

We found it fun to be starting afresh and even now keep finding odd things to bring over with us. We keep a suitcase on the spare bed and every time we get something we put it straight in. We also have a folding suitcase so now and again we put luggage in the hold but at least we don't have to pay to bring an empty suitcase back with us.

Thanks All for your replies.. It's all quite exciting.... will have to be patient until early next year.. but does help to be able to do some research..

Are you suggesting that ceiling fans are required as well as Air Con, or instead of?

Sandra :)

Re: Water drinkable?

We don't have air con, only ceiling fans, which for us is enough. We have never been out in August but have been in July and September. One advantage with air con is that it can also be used in the winter for heating, and you will need some form of heating if you come out in the winter. We use a couple of electric/oil filled radiators although we keep thinking we should also consider a calor gas heater.

Hi Sandra, we have both but find ceiling fans better than air con in the hottest months as you can have them running all night and not run up massive bills. As mentioned above you will need air con more in the Winter for heating as once you become acclimatised it is chilly indoors and it also keeps your rooms aired.

I don't think I could stand it in August... but either side may be OK... so thanks for the tip... There is a lot to think about. Thank you :D

We haven't tried the water, assumed it wasn't drinkable, but will try now :)
As for furniture we had beds from Tavira auctions, delivered, and a English owner, he has lots of furniture, worth a look.
Sofa and light fittings in Lepe, very reasonable, and all other bits carrefour in carat ya, who needs Ikea. Lol.

We haven't got wi if as it sounds complicated, but hope to get soon. We have had our Manzana a year now, and it's great fun kitting it all out. Sue x
