You can not make that comparison, because Spain has no connection with Japan, New Zealand or Chile, which are countries with high seismic activity (earthquakes, volcanoes, etc) to be located in the "Pacific Ring of Fire"

Last year there was an earthquake in Germany, I've also read that there was another in England, etc etc etc. Seismic activity is worldwide, our planet is alive, but the most dangerous area is the " Pacific Ring of Fire "

The secondary school of Lady Elizabeth School Is in Jalon about 10 mins from Calpe with a school Bus from Alfaz that passes through Calpe. Its an English curriculum school leading to IGCSE and Alevels. The only "International" School is in Campello just north of Alicante. Other Brit Schools are Elians in La Nucia, Sierra Bernia and Costa Blana in Alfaz. Lady Elizabeth Primary and Xabia international college in Javea. All fee paying Schools.

Absolutely. Ours has been done to code. Our neighbours thought we were mad. We have so much concrete underneath us! The foundations alone cost over 20,000 for a mid terrace house. But if there is an earthquake. And I wouldn't be at all surprised. Perhaps ours will be the last house standing?

Maybe they'd make a better job of rebuilding it next time around,....that's if they bothered of course.

Whilst I can't imagine insurance companies coughing up for the tragic ongoing events in Japan, which will likely be classed as an act of God or similar, I wonder what the situation is for minor events as have occurred more recently in Spain, where just a small amount of structural damage results ?
Are these still considered to be an act of God, or whatever they call it these days?
Would insurance claims be considered or would the punters simply be told to send the bill upstairs ?

We asked specific questions about quakes when we bought our insurance and they were very keen to see the evidence of certificates and when approved we were told that we would definitly be covered. I do think that in a major event the last resort insurerer is the Spanish Goverent.

I think maybe you are being unduly optimistic, especially in view of the fact that the Spanish govt.is already stony broke.

AGREED BUT THAT WASN'T THE CASE WHEN WE STARTED. Do we just give up and live in a cave? its the best we can do at prices we can afford and I suspect everybody else is in the same boat. We have followed all the regs which I know are as good as any so if it happens we have done all we can. Must go now and check my emergancy bag has some sticking plasters and a torch!

I live in El Campello and I am not aware of an International School here.

Where is it? Are you sure it is in Campello?

I would be surprised as there are not a lot of expats living here and those that do live here are mainly older people without young children.
