Default Voting in Spanish municipal elections 2023

I have just received my invitation via letter to register to vote in the above - It confirms Spain signed an agreement with the UK to permit our participation if we meet the eligibility rules (which it does not state) I assume this is full residency prior to 1st January 2021.

Anyway if you are interested to vote and are not registered I suggest you take action now - it says my deadline to register is 15/1/23 - I do not know if this is just Alicante/Valencia or all of Spain.

For more start here https://sede.ine.gob.es/ss/Satellite...out&lang=en_GB

For UK nationals, you must be on the padrón for 3 years by next January.

Will send by post.

Yes, for all of Spain. My husband and I received ours on Monday but the website to register has not been working since - we have tried it several times. So will have to send them by post (if it ever stops raining long enough to go out to the postbox that is!).

Well, folks - today I think I win the prize - as I think that I have registered online (a bit tortuous) and I have received their PDF - Recibo de presentation en oficina de registro

But I might send the letter as well!!

Never heard of electronic processing key CTT ??

The CTT option didn't work for me either, but after going round in circles I finally found the digital certificate option and have my justificante.

I had never heard of the CTT option which I think also requires registration - yes I used my digital certificate.

Can anybody more about CTT?

Update - just had a phone call from the oficina de registro (very nice lady) and there was a problem with my online application (not totally sure what!) so we agreed it is best I return the letter (which I planned to do as backup)

The letter is the easiest way. It just needs your NIE and signature and a postbox.

It's still not clear to me how I register to vote. Been here 17 years, resident and on padron for all of that time. I have my digital signature but can't see how to register.

I haven't received a letter yet - should I just wait and risk missing the date or can I be proactive?

I'm up north and have received my letter too, so definitely an all of Spain thing.

Here's the steps to take online (on a PC/laptop):
  • Go to the web address on the letter (mine stated sede.ine.gob.es)
  • Optionally, on the top-right change the language to English and click 'Ir'
  • Hover your mouse on the Trámites / Paperwork tab: an option list will appear
  • Hover your mouse over the 'Trámites de Censo Electoral' / 'Electoral Census Procedures' option: another option list will appear
  • Click the bottom one i.e. 'Inscripción en el Censo Electoral de Extranjeros Residentes en España de ciudadanos nacionales de países con Acuerdos' / 'Registration in the Electoral Census of Foreigners Resident in Spain of nationals from countries with Agreements'
  • This immediately takes you to a new page (you might not notice that it's changed). Over on the right is a link: 'Presentación de la solicitud' / 'Presentation of the application': click this
  • This takes you to another new page; click the link on the right 'Acceso NIE - CTT' / 'To access NIE - CTT'
  • In that new page fill in your NIE and the CTT from your letter
And from here you'll have to follow your nose as I can't remember how it went but it was simple.

Good luck, you can do it
