Vodafone Pissed Off

I bought a cheap Nokia mobile for OH for emergency use in the car. He has used it to phone me on the odd occasion but today we found a message saying that as it hasn´t been topped up for 9 months (not sure if that is right or not) they have cancelled the sim card.

Just venting here that they can just do that.

They normally send multiple warning messages well before they cancel the card.

Only found one. The mobile is left in the car and nobody phones my OH so never really look at it. It was only because my phone had run out of credit so OH suggested I use his!

you will find a lot of them do that i.e. cut you off after a certain time. I would think that 9 months would be about the norm. I have Eroski mobile sim and just put 5 Euros on it every 6 months when I am over. Not sure if there is any payg without a time limit?

You may find it has just been blocked from making calls out and if you top up minimum amount you will have that and the old credit as well? That did happen to me once.

Tried to do that but it said "this number is not recognised". Refuse to pay 15 euros for another sim card. But what choice have I?

I've had it done, bloody rutheless here these companies, the problem is, if you do top up, you will find your credit dissapears without any use. I am convinced they charge you for texts they send to you, trying to flog stuff.

You don´t get charged for receiving texts from anyone.

You can buy a new sim card in the pound shop for £1.

I have a cheap PAYG mobile for use when I visit the UK (bought at the supermarket for £10 with £10 worth of credit) and I have to make a chargeable call at least every six months to keep it active, so it's not just here in Spain. As with most things, you need to read the smallest of small print!

Right............two questions does anyone know anything about this HITS PAYG sim card? It looks really good value but as someone who had a Yoigo phone which never worked I am wary of coverage. Also how do you find out if a phone is locked or unlocked?

We took 2 UK PAYG mobiles to a shop in our town which sells second hand mobiles and also unlocks phones. One they did with no problems, the other one proved impossible even after they had sent it away to Malaga, but they didn't charge us anything for trying. So if you have a similar shop nearby, I'd suggest just asking them to give it a go.

Don´t know any secondhand mobile shop, but, thanks anyway.

Looking at HITS FAQ you have to make a top up every 3 months or frozen
