Default Vodafone

Another story of Vodafone's breathtaking incompetence. Today I thought the saga of my Vodafone ADSL was finally reaching a conclusion. Months after moving from Altea to Oliva and (so I thought) arranging to continue with my Vodafone ADSL in Oliva, I got the call I'd been waiting for from a Telefonica technico. He came on time and did his stuff. The line (which was already in the house) is o.k. However the router didn't work. At his suggestion, I phoned Vodafone customer "services" and, after the usual lengthy delay, was told that I need to buy a new router! Apparently a router suitable for the Altea exchange won't work in Oliva. I have to admit I thought routers are all the same. Obviously they knew this before but didn't bother to tell me.

I keep asking myself why I persist with them - is it my dogged english character or is it the "dog sitting on a thistle" syndrome??

It is my belief (although I am happy to be corrected) that all routers operate the same although there may be quality differences.

That is what I always thought too, you just have to make sure the wifi switch is on and use the new code on the bottom of the router, or use a cable connection.

I now have received a letter stating that in the next 2 weeks I will receive an sms telling me that my adsl has been activated. Nobody in Vodafone customer "services" bothered to mention this. So it looks like I have to wait even longer. I think that the suggestion that I need a new router is a red herring.

I can't understand how a major company can operate such with incompetent customer assistance.

Today my adsl is (at last) activated! I didn't need to buy a new router my old one is working fine. Thank goodness I ignored their advice that I needed to buy a new one.
