Vetinarry charges
 

My vet charges me €20 for a prescription, he does not write or sign the prescription, his receptionist does tthis. Then the pharmacy charges me for the tablets. My doctor writes my precriptions and there is no charge, I just pay the pharmacy for the medication.

Is this normal for vets to charge for writing a prescription? Thank you

In our case no.
If you are unhappy with the service look for another vet.

We had 5 cats and frequent visits for varios ailments. We were never charged for a prescription. We either paid the vet for the medication (if he had it) or we paid the pharmacy.

Overall, we have found the vets bills in Spain to be a fraction of UK costs.

I'm with Fred, often no action no charge, if charged it's only for the drugs, and if there is a human equivalent scrip issued, no charge.

Ask around locally and change, which is what we did. I think we used the same vet in Nerja as Fred but changed with misdiagnosis an what we felt was a lack of interest.

Friends in the UK cannot believe how little we pay.

For us actually the opposite and we couldn't believe how much friends paid in Spain compared to Ireland, but then I noticed there are huge differences and even here in Ireland people in town seem to be paying 3x what we pay and then it's down to the vet. We always had rescue cats and it cost us €50 to get them neutered, but even in Spain some people seem to be paying a lot more/some people similar depending on vet.

We had 3 rescue cats and all were looked after by our local vet. We paid for the consultation, medication if they supplied it or only the consultation and paid the pharmacist to fill the prescription. They were brilliant when one seemed to have been poisoned, 72 hours of care, medication / rehydration etc over a weekend which meant the vet visited at odd hours to check on things and administer more meds. Even though their rates are very reasonable I thought still thought we would be in for a bill around €700+. Amazed when they only charged €240 including all the meds. I cannot begin to imagine what this would have cost in the UK.

at the vet in alhaurin it cost 160 € :( we ended up going to a charity instead, with 20 cats at the time and they charged us 30€ each.
