Veterinary Costs/Pet Insurance
Apologies if this a duplication of another thread.
How do Spanish Veterinary Costs & Pet Insurance compare with the UK. Would be interested to hear from anyone who has a Dog or a Cat.

Ins, no idea, never use it as if it's anything like the UK it could be a bit of a rip off, though I expect I've just opened a hornets nest in that respect.

One of our cats suffered a trauma to the side of his face and had to have a broken tooth root extracted, stitches in the cheek and his tongue sewn up.
Consultation €20 and follow up consultation €15.
X-ray €25
One night hospitalisation €30
Surgery with full anaesthetic €75
On another occasion a full blood test was €40
Based on what my daughter pays in the UK that is much cheaper.
Pet insurance is nowhere near as common as in the UK but it does exist.

I think you are right. It's probably common in the UK because of the high prices. Some time ago, my daughter's cat needed a CT scan and it was £900 (she had insurance). You only pay €300 max here for a human scan.

We had a whole week of tablets and injections for our cat and the total cost was €47.

It is 10 years since I was in the UK so have no knowledge of current costs there except for those communicated to me by friends in the UK - much more than I pay here. I have 2 rescue dogs and the service I get from my vet is magnificent. Each September I take my dogs for all of the necessary shots and medication which includes a years supply of things like worming tablets, it costs me €100 a time for both of them. Very cheap. Once, my eldest dog had a severe infection causing her a great deal of pain and trauma. The vet visited my home, some 25 km away from his practice, treated her and only charged me for the cost of the medication - amazing. I responded by making a large donation to his favourite dog charity - the rescue and care of abandoned dogs, mostly Gargo's who had 'outlived' their usefulness. My youngest dog ripped a dew claw whilst charging through the campo. I took her to the vet who removed the severely damaged claw - no charge. Get the right vet and you have no problems.

Re: Veterinary Costs/Pet Insurance
Pet insurance is not that common in Spain from what I understand.
That is probably why vets bills are so much lower than the UK.
Be assured though that this situation will change once more people in Spain are persuaded to take out pet insurance - it's a licence to print money for the vets. Spain will end up just like the UK where vets will charge as much as they can get away with knowing that the insurance companies will be paying for it, whereas at the moment there is good competition amongst vets and they keep their prices down to what people can afford to pay.
Vets in the UK want to be paid like doctors. Vets in Spain would be only too happy to receive similar levels of income. You see leaflets and other advertising for pet insurance at most Spanish vets now - they are keen to promote pet insurance as it means more money for them.

We have had up to ten dogs and 4 cats. Our vet is great. Always comes to us in the campo for yearly injects and 'cos on block we get a discount. When my cat Pugwash had to go to pussy heaven he was so upset as he adored him he refused to charge us. Cost are a lot cheaper.

We use a Spanish vet with three vets in the practice. They have all the latest equipment, X-rays, Ultrasound, blood tests (10 minute turnaround) etc and a full operating theatre.
We had to have two ultrasound scans on one of our cats recently. They charged €15 for the first one and nothing for the second, two weeks later. The fee for the consultation was €15.
