Use the CNMC comparison site - DLC posted a link to it earlier in the thread but here it is again.

It is the official Government site and you can be sure it includes the available options from all the energy companies, unlike most of the commercial ones which don't include companies who don't work with them (rather like the ones for insurance policies in the UK). It doesn't matter where you live as the companies which you contract with for energy are not the same as the ones which own the distribution network.

I have a 3 bed/2 bath house - semi-detached with stairs.

I have a contract with Iberdrola - Plan Noche 5.5kW

I have an electric water heater but a gas hob (electric oven but don't use much) plus hot/cold A/C and usual other stuff - TV, fridge/freezer, dishwasher etc

All my appliances are modern and I use saver light bulbs

In 2022 my average monthly bill was 41,36€ per month and in 2023 is running at 41,43€ pm.

I have an intelligent meter and Iberdrola provides a fully detailed usage analysis.

one person? 2, 3, 4?
Do you work full/part time? Eat out a lot? Watch a lot of TV?
New/old home? South/north facing?
Do you actually use the combi climate system or put on a "jumper"?
How many times do you wash your clothes weekly? All in one or seperate (colored & whites)? Do you hang the laundry to dry exterior or use a dryer?
Just a few questions to see why it is the same...

Just me - retired - in a lot.
Home a lot last year, only away for about 6 nights. A lot of TV
20 years old. East/west ish. But 332mts above sea level (I have a gas fire)
I used the heating via A/C a lot in my bedroom during the cold spell and
and electric bathroom heater
Probably only use the washing machine once a week-ish (8 kg)
I don't own an airer/dryer

I thinking have modern appliances especially the water heater and fridge freezer helps a lot.

I suggest people using Iberdrola use their website to check the contract options which
best suit their lifestyle needs or visit an Iberdrola office and talk to them to get
the best deal - beware of those people working for Iberdrola in the DIY stores etc -
I think they are heavily incentivised to sell Iberdrola services!

Sometimes there just isn't enough juice even with a threshold like 5.75. :)

We're all-electric too but without A/C, and TVs are only on in the late evening once there is nobody in the kitchen. :) I'm guessing the water boiler must use quite a bit of energy but luckily it kicks in and does most of the work in the morning when absolutely nothing else is running (and then just maintains the water temp throughout the day). We have it (the water heater) on a 7am - 9pm timer every day - is that a good way to run it or would we be saving energy by setting it to something like 7-8am and then 8-9pm with a long break in the middle of the day?

If you look closely at the Endesa bill then there are some QR codes on it. One of them actually takes you to a web page with comparison tariffs (this should be the government comparison site that Lynn also listed for you).

We've never found it makes a lot of difference to have our water heater on a timer or to have it on constantly, to be honest. We now have a Fleck Duo one which seems pretty economical to run.

Since last November our bills have been back to pre-Ukraine levels. There are 2 of us in a 2 bed apartment, we have AC in the living room which we use for heating and use electric heaters in the bathrooms for short periods in winter. My largest bill in the last 12 months was €86 for last August, when the tope del gas charge was high (for a couple of months we were charged more for that than we were for the electricity we used) and had had the AC on most evenings for 3/4 hours. This winter the biggest bill was €76 when we had the AC on for heating for 4 hours every evening. The tope del gas charge now seems to have disappeared altogether (it was actually a negative amount on my February and March bills). The latest bill received about a week ago was €58, for 35 days so a bit more than a month, with no AC or heating used.

We probably use more electricity for cooking than most people would, as we cook two separate main meals a day (eat out at least once a week) because we eat different things (my husband is vegetarian and I'm not).

76 Euros seems very decent when including the heating for a couple of hours each day. Over here we don't require any heating even in winter (unless someone lives higher up as temps go down about 1C for every 100m above sea level).

I see you're also getting charged at irregular intervals, this time for 35 days?

P.S. On a side note, has anyone tried out the Endesa Única tariff which is supposed to be a flat monthly fee?

Yes our biĺling periods with Iberdrols can be a bit erratic, once last year I got a bill for just 3 days. Not as bad as our previous supplier, Naturgy, though. With them I could get bills for one month, two months and once they waited three months to issue one, I just never knew when to expect them

The important question is : what are your readings in kwh for each month?

I use Iberdrola. I use the no nonsense fixed rate. I was on quite a high tariff last year. I then saw they were advertising a lower rate. I simply phoned them and asked if I could get the lower rate. They just changed my contract immediately on the phone and sent me a new one by email. And lo and behold I now use twice as much a month ( because I was being very careful with water heater and heating) but pay the same. So it looks like the thing to do is keep an eye on their adverts and then its up to you to get them to change things. They won't do it unless you ask.
oh yes...my boss said she was at one of the shopping malls the other week where an Iberdrola agent asked her about her supplier ( which was Iberdrola). They simply offered her a new better deal on the spot plus gave her a 30 euro voucher to use Leroy Merlin!!!
