Thank you for that - it is very welcome (and somewhat surprising) news.

Thanks for the correction jimenato!
It seems that the message is getting across to some in power. The autonomo fee is to be cut by 50% for the first 15 months of "alta" (registration). But this is just in Madrid (other areas may have their own schemes?) and only for under 30s, but it's a start. (article in Spanish)

I wouldn't rely on this tinpot country ever paying things back. I am still waiting for a refund of IVA from last December. The only reply I ever get from my worse than useless assessor is that they are investigating it. I applied for a VAT refund for a business I closed down in the UK last year, it came 14 days later.
Civil servants around the world are notoriously lazy and incompetent...complete the job title to Spanish civil servant and you can take lazy and incompetent to a new level with a hint of added corruption

and let us not forget how everyone loves to harp on about immersing ourselves in the local lifestyle and getting in touch with the "culture" which surrounds us in the place we choose to reside.
If only I had an interest in Spanish culture...perhaps I would be less likely to pay these crippling taxes which benefit me in no way whatsoever

You are not allowed to come onto Spain, with remarks like this, we have firewall protection against that sort of thing....
Firewall CMAN has been activated...............

as it is generally understood the Spanish have no allowances or support system for new-entrepreneurs you may be interested to see that for the past 2 years France has had a system to support micro businesses, sidelines etc called "Auto-Entrepreneur"
The turnover figures are perhaps a bit low, but at least they have a system of support.

This does not mean I have to take an interest in what goes on around me since the only thing that directly affects me is how much of my money they help themselves to not what they do with it
