uk to spain licence change.

hi all,

went for my 'medical' at a place that specialises in licence changes and renewals.

the office noted i had various classes of vehicle listed and said i could only have one on my new licence, any more will mean paying 40 eu per class!!

a friend did his a while back at a different office and his new licence has same classes as his old uk licence.

does anyone in spain sing from the same hym sheet? !!!!!!

Tosh IMO.
Under EU regs they exchange like for like, but LGV / PSV will require a medical that is above the car one.
Minibus entitlement that older UK licence holder had are not allowed in Spain as it comes under the PSV entitlement.

Go elsewhere or via your local Gestor.

People sing from the same hymn sheet it is just that some times people don't understand what the hymn it is they are listening to.!!

ooops... had typed more than that! i'm in priego de cordoba which is low in brits, i don't think they had ever done a brit to spanish licence change before, just did stuff for spaniards and were applying wrong rules. anyway, we'll see what trafico say in cordoba in a few weeks!

p.s. not that i really need to drive a track laying vehicle anyway!

Re: uk to spain licence change - medical

if anyone is interested in the 'medical' for licence change to spanish.. here's what i experienced in priego de cordoba.

1: was sat in front of a screen with a box that had two handles... i had to watch a screen and use the handles to keep two separate rectangles inside their 'tracks' which weaved and wobbled independently... i almost expected to start getting electric shocks as i reached higher levels like in the bond film 'never say never again' :)

2: was then taken into the doctor's room where he asked me basic health questions (do you sleep ok? have you ever lost consciousness?, etc.) and more specific questions about any illnesses, medications and recent operations. also took my blood pressure, listened to my heart.

3: eye test... this was, in my opinion, a joke. i was stood much too close to the screen compared to uk eye tests and asked to read some letters and say colours of little squares.
then same test again but one eye closed - same letters and colours / same with other eye but same letters and colours in reverse order (i had memorised them at this point!).

4: various simple co-ordination tests, which were like pre-breathalyser tests for drunkeness in the uk - hold arms out at sides and then touch your nose, etc.

and that was it! no hearing test.

p.s. took my photo for their records, was relieved it wasn't for the licence as i looked like an ashen faced zombie!

hi fred.
not in cordoba region they don't... we asked the medico last night and they said we need to get colour photos of a certain size, different to passport, the DGT site confirms this... Una foto reciente de 32 x 26 mm.

same for me. their photo which is on the test paper is just there for trafico to see you are the same person that took the test.

Probably because mine was a renewal. They send off everything electronically and you get your licence in 2 weeks in the post. At least you have an easier option to look forward to when you renew!
