Advice from who?
Do any of you have EU passport or rights to (IE) ?
Have you actually checked facts on Spain's official website?

Unless one of you is blessed with an EU passport, it's very, very difficult to work in Spain. Third country nationals find it virtually impossible to get a work visa unless they have skills that are in very high demand.

It's a pity people were not adequately warned about how different and how difficult it would be to relocate to an EU state without EU freedom of movement before the referendum. So many people didn't seem to realise how much things would change and probably find it difficult to get their heads around the fact that it was all so easy for UK nationals before the dreaded Brexit and so difficult now.

Re: UK resident to get Spanish visa

Yes many things could have been done differently pre brexit and the remain side could have detailed better what uk citizens would lose by leaving the EU. That said i was in the position of being an house owner in Spain with intention of my wife and myself eventually retiring to spain full time post brexit. I didnt wait to be spoon fed the information re brexit by the remain or leave side, I took it upon myself to research effects on us working out worse case scenario and how we could still make our plan work. Luckily in the interim between referendum and full brexit day the withdrawal agreement resolved many of our concerns. What the OP could do pre brexit is of no use to them being nearly 6 years from brexit they are stuck with current legislation. Any family links to Ireland may be of use if either of them can get an Irish passport otherwise they have to contend with the 3rd country rules that now apply unfortunately for them . It hasn't been the easy straight forward move for work or retirement that it was for a long time now. It may be that the OP does have an essential skill that Spain has difficulty filling? if so that would help them greatly.
