Default UK LIGHT FITTINGS

Does UK 240W light fittings work in Spain and are there any concerns that we should know about given the different wattage, Cheers

Do you mean watts or volts?

There is no such thing as a 240 watt fitting, nor a 240 volt one these days come to think of it, phased out (no pun intended) almost 20 years ago by the EC!

They should be fine, apart from the plugs not working, and the fact you can't get B22 lamps here. So you will probably want to change both the plug and the bulbholder once you are here.

Exactly the opposite ,nearly all new light fittings sold in the UK now have ES or SES holders.

Cheap mass-produced fittings are built with screw-in SES or ES holders to keep the BOM down.

Pretty soon all light fittings will come pre installed with the light source, so no bulbs or bulb holders to worry about ever again. Just throw the lot away at the end of life.

Most of them. Semiconductor based lighting is the future. Walk into a shop, buy a light fitting and take it home.

When the internal light unit fails in, say, 30-150 years time, your children (or great grandchildren) can take it to the local skip, or have it repaired at the local antique store which will replace the workings with a light source that hasn't been invented yet!

How many CFLs did you just avoid sending to landfill? How much efficacy did your luminaire gain by not compromising design for a replacable lamp?

Most Spanish bulbs are screw thread, not the bayonet type as in the UK, although there are more and more screw thread ones being sold in the UK. As with the UK, all 100W and over ordinary bulbs are now not sold, and you have to buy the energy saving ones.. Spanish and UK, and the rest of the EU, electrical supply is now 230 Volts, a compromise between the UK 240 and continental 220. If you are taking UK lamps over, then I suggest you take a supply of bulbs as you may find the bayonet ones difficult to find. Otherwise just buy them in Spain, then you will be able to get spare bulbs easily.

Should you be moving somewhere close to Gibraltar then UK bayonet style bulbs are available there.

Actually I'm being serious, can you give me a link or name of such a journal where you read this.

Hi VP, Your 240 volt light fittings will work in Spain.

The UK is still 240 volt. But is stated as 230 with a tolarence of +10% -6%.

I think this was done to comply to EU regs.
