UK Government announces £3 million grant to help UK nationals in the EU prepare
Latest press release from British Embassy Madrid:
UK Government announces £3 million grant to help UK nationals in the EU prepare for Brexit
UK nationals who may struggle to complete their residency applications will be helped by measures announced by the UK Government. Up to £3 million is being provided for organisations who will inform UK nationals who live in EU member states including Spain, about the need to register as resident and support them as they complete their applications. The Government wants to support those who may find it harder to complete all the paperwork – focusing in particular on pensioners or disabled people, those living in remote areas or with mobility difficulties, and those needing assistance with language translation or interpretation.
British Consul Sarah-Jane Morris said: “The UK will be leaving the EU on 31 October and we want to help UK nationals living in Spain to be fully ready for Brexit, whatever the circumstances. This funding will ensure people get the support they need to protect their residency rights and access to services.”
Organisations working with people who might be affected and who might require additional support can apply for project funding from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office from 19 September at gov.uk/fco. The fund’s programme team, based in London, will be running a series of webinars to provide bidders with a fuller understanding of the fund and an opportunity to ask questions on the bidding process. Interested organisations can find further detail athttps://www.gov.uk/government/news/3...-eu-for-brexit. Organisations can also contact their nearest consulate for an initial conversation.
Individuals wanting to access support with their residency applications will be able to contact those organisations who are successful in their bid, once the funding has been awarded. We will provide details of the providers for Spain in due course. Meanwhile, UK nationals living in Spain should continue to prioritise registering as a resident by 31 October.

One has to question if this is to try and get support from those of us that live in the EU should there be a snap election?

I just asked a question ? Is it or isn't it ? The latest news is currently reporting discussions on going at no 10 now on this very matter. Boris, Cummings and the ERG will do anything to get their no deal it would seem. Where are we regarding a sensible deal which would protect our rights and those of EU citizens living in the UK? I believe Hammond has written asking the PM that very question ? Maybe Boris is busy trying to find out the answer from Dominic?

Yes I am of a similar view but this strikes me as Boris or more likely Cummings trying to soften up EU expat voters. I would rather they put their efforts into securing a good deal that would at least protect our financial and medical interests.

All these idiots need to do is agree to reciprocate all existing agreements with Spain. That won't cost them 3million!

They did say they would, but they just haven’t got round to it yet. I’m not worried about it as the Spanish have given them to the end of 2020 to sort it out and I can’t see that they won’t get round to it by then.
Its just like this fiasco with 3 million EU citizens in the UK who need to register. If they had implemented the new EU registration system that they use in Spain and most other EU countries they would not be in this total mess. They could have done it but they chose to opt out.

What about the ones in other EU countries? Austria has not published any info. My other half is a Brit and wonders if he can complete his holiday beyond 31st Oct. He is registered as it is compulsory for any stay beyond 90 days.
