Default UK equivalent of Certificado de Penales (Criminal record)

Hello all,

I am British but have lived in Spain for more than 40 years, and I am not planning to return, so it's about time I obtained Spanish Nationality (although I will keep my UK Passport just in case!). One of the requirements is to get the UK equivalent of the Spanish Certificado de Penales (Criminal record). I haven't lived in the UK for all this time, and I can't even remember my last address there.

Does anyone know where I have to apply for this document?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Best regards to all.

Start here

http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

The other option is http://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx but these are not specifically for immigration purposes.

Hi CoolSmith,

I am in the same situation as you, after 30 years of living in Spain without a UK address I have drawn a blank as how to get a CRB or DBS, even a police certificate asks for a UK address within the last 10 years.

I wonder if you managed to get around this and if so if you wouldn't mind sharing any useful information, I would be really grateful.

Best regards.

Hi Pepehola,

I got a certificate finally from the Assocation of Chief Police Officers. Doesn't need a UK address, but costs 45 pounds. I asked a friend in UK to send the money, because I was doubtful they would receive it if I made a transfer from Spain. See this website:

Saludos,

Hi CoolSmith,

Thank you so much for your help, I shall apply for a certificate in July, I do have a UK bank account still so no problem there but an endorser from the UK is proving to be a tad difficult as I only have family in the UK now, don't know if I can use one of my Spanish friends or not.

Anyway thanks again.

Un abrazo

Hi Coolsmith and Pepehola,

I was just wondering, obviously apart from the fact that you have lived there for a long time, are there any advantages to gaining Spanish Nationality? I know this post is a few months old but I'm doing lot's of research into the possibility of living and working there in the next few years. Cheers, Ben

The main advantage (as I see it) is that some jobs are ONLY available to Spanish Nationals.

My son, therefore, is considering this option as he wants to go into either the National Police or the Guardia Civil.

Hi Haighy,
To have Spanish nationality would mean simplification of any bureaucracy, plus you wouldn’t have to carry your Passport with the piece of A4 police registration around with you wherever you go. It would also give you peace of mind to any rights if Britain pulls out of the EU, I hope to claim my Spanish pension in the near future, on top of all this a Spanish identity card is about the size of a bank credit card and much cheaper to renew. I have not voted in the elections in the UK for over 15 years therefore have lost the right to vote so taking part in national elections in Spain would make me feel more at home than I already do.

you get a spanish certificate from the police office by malaga port. I think its in building number 11, opposite the big bus station type thing, behind the bus stop on the other side of the road. (a friend got one when she wanted to work on a cruise ship)
