Does anybody have any experience of a good hire car company to use in the uk. I want to pick up and drop off a car at an airport but because I live in Spain they want ridiculously high deposits .
Any suggestions ?

Never been asked for a deposit. Do you not have a UK credit card?

Yes , but they don`t like European licenses or Spanish home address . They want a 1000 pound deposit . These are well know companies . Who have you used ?

Fortunately, I have a UK license, address and credit card.

Never had that problem. Go to the UK every 3 months to visit aged mother. Bilbao-Stansted & pick up rental car from airport desk. Always used Budget. I have a Spanish driving licence (swopped my UK one 2 years ago). Usually hire a small car (eg Corsa). Car hire fee about €13/day. Also take out their "extra cover insurance" which is around €13/day; then petrol cost. For about 6 days.
Never had to pay a £1000 deposit ever. They charge a £100 deposit, which you get back when you return the vehicle.

Which company have you used ?

They're called "Budget" or Budget rental. Have blue & orange colours. (not the cars!!). Must have used them a dozen times & never a problem.
Tried Green Motion once when I went to Heathrow, but the trouble is to keep their costs lower they have their cars a few miles away & you have to catch a special bus. Too much hassle for my liking.

I always use Saga who are partners with Hertz. Cheap as chips. And you get an extra additional driver free plus Nectar points. You dont have to be an OAP to use Saga either.
