Had this sent to me today, I'll be watching - will you!

*27th August; the day the Whole World is waiting for.....

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65 Million miles of earth.

Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Well it sounds quite amazing Lionda!

I was out until 3 am this morning (first night of our village fiesta) and I can't say I noticed two moons (maybe I hadn't had enough to drink!?) :D

The moon was very bright though, and very nearly full - so maybe tonight's the night??

No doubt I'll be out just as late tonight, so I'll keep an eye out.

Of course, this could just be a joke, and then all we will have proved is how very gullible we are?? :unsure: :o

I've just been searching in google and it looks like this happened in 2003:confused:.. I don't remember hearing about it then either..

Yeah, I remember it well. There's a festival just over the border in Portugal on the last weekend of August in Castro Marim. It's a mediaeval one and it is based in a castle. It was quite magical in 2003 (or was it 2004????) watching people all dressed up, watching the jousting whilst the full moon was hanging over us and the sight of Mars (looked like a very big burning star!!!) in the sky too.
