Steady on Posh,
Theres nothing much wrong with Torrevieja,-----
that half a dozen bulldozers couldnt cure.

Could be worth having a bit rummage among the rubble,---
probably more interesting things than a few hubcaps,
might even turn up my old lawn mower;)

We had the opportunity a few years ago to have a couple of holidays there, firstly staying in Villamartin and later on in an apartment block. I noticed there were quite a few beggars/gypsies and it looked a bit seedy in parts. We were told to keep our doors and windows locked at all times - not a good sign! An expat stopped us in the local supermarket one day and stated that we must be over on holiday as my wife was carrying a handbag! I looked around and then noticed that none of women there were carrying one due to bag snatching being rather prevelant.

I assume you are referring to Torre and not Villamartin which seems to me totally different.

I stayed just outside Playa Flemenca last summer and can't say I found many problems with the place, the area I was staying was a bit quiet just on the other side of the motorway.

Torrevieja itself is alright, wouldn't walk the inner streets on my own at night but the front is great.

I'm looking to get over to the Costa Blanca for the summer next year, maybe longer if it goes well and I'm looking to possibly stay around Torrevieja. All I need is a job!

Hmm, a job eh.

Don't recommend the construction industry right now

Nah I wouldn't go into that anyways, god knows what though. Plenty of time to sort that out.

I've heard that there are lots of "bargains" out there with exactly that sort of problem and worse, some are earmarked for demolition and some of the "fine people" that own them are trying to shift 'em.

Just a thought.

Remember, it's different out here:cool:

Forget Torrevieja its one of the shitiest locations on the whole of the Costa Blanca full of graffiti etc its a just downright ugly. Its a spanish town planners disaster, they have literally washed their hands of it and just concentrate now in dressing it up for tourism. Its actually looks much better now than it looked 5 years ago, as at that time it looked more like Beirut. Better off going somewhere much nicer as stated above like Denia or Javea etc and for that reason they are a lot more expensive. The only reason I can think of someone coming to Torrevieja, is that they will certainly get a very cheap property. Also for you it depends of what line of work you are in. as well. In a nutshell the only saving grace of Torre is the promenade but the rest total crap.

D'you know I didn't see the promenade, I didn't know it had one.

Too late now, I'm not going back unless I've got to

Err, well, I think the consensus is - Don't go near the place.

And rent before you buy, that way you get more time to make your mind up.

Learning spanish is a good thing to do as well.

Well at least not without a bodyguard and a blindfold so he doesn`t have to see what a hole it is. But he could work there, as there are some pleasant towns and areas quite close by,
