One of them complains about not getting the "Mercadona song" out of their head. I didn't even know there was one..

It seems that most of those complaints are from young Americans - which I guess matches the Twitter demographic

As you can clearly surmise just from this forum alone, Americans are the ones who always complain about everything in Spain.
"Wasn't us"
Farkin yanks. You'd think they'd be more concerned with their own impoverished country than always complaining about Spain. But you were probably right long ago when you said it's because they are jealous of Spain.
Just for the record, I don't mind the Mercadona song, but I've about had it with that obnoxious irritating buzzer at Lidl.

Just out of curiosity, what is a "top" expat? Is it a contest?

Good question.
I would have thought that anyone who had a single moan about Spain would be bottom of the league, rather than a "top expat", in Stevie's books.
Interesting and entertaining link anyway, though I could think of a few more at the risk of upsetting someone.
Meal times, especially the late Evening meals tend to be a common and I think understandable gripe amongst many,....but hey ho,..when in Spain......

Spain does a lovely peanut butter... much better than Sun pat's....
And using an invisible watchamacallit lets me catch up on UK tv on I players...
but I too find myself singing the mercadona ditty for most of the day after I've done my shopping there....
I love Spain

I always thought those two lived on another planet, I reckon the fact that they don't know the Mercadona song surely proves it beyond any doubt.

I read it the same way as you did, first time around. Then reading further, i realised that what they wanted to say was these were the top complaints that expats had. Maybe I'm just old, but I find that even in "good" English newspapers, the level of grammar used by reporters these days , is embarrasingly poor. Mind you when you take into account the education level of the average teacher, it's understandable.

Talking of annoying Ad's, how about car adverts in Spanish on Talksport, seriously either Talksport is mugging the Spaniards off, or they really have nothing between their ears, I think a bit of both.
Lets just sit back and think do people in Spain other than Brits listen to Talksport, Its hard work for us, I don't believe many Spaniards listen to it, so what a waste of advertising as I would also think that the majority who listen would not even be able to work out it is a Audi Advert.
Bloody annoying and repetitive.

Oviedo is far above all that despicable low-brow, common-folk Mercadona crap. Only us Jeremy-Kyle-style uneducated, benefits-sucking, beer-drinking, closed-minded racist expats would ever venture into a place like that.
