time allowed to drive without ITV

Hi
Does anyone knows the time you are allowed legally to drive after your ITV expired in Spain?

Once it expires you cannot drive it at all unless you are driving to the test centre with an appointment.

If it has failed the test then you can drive it to a garage to get it fixed and you can drive it to a retest at the ITV centre.

Our ITV had run out and we were stopped by the Guardia Civil. We were very lucky as it was 2 months out of date, and we hadnt realised. No notifications as we hadnt had the car long.
We were on our way to make a house call (my husbands a GP) so the Guardia Civil allowed me to stay by the roadside to collect the multa whilst my husband attended his patient etc. We were fined 200 euros.

Presumably you only paid €100 after the prompt payment discount.

The fine is far too low which is why there are thousands of cars driving with no ITV. It's cheaper to risk the occasional fine as it works out cheaper than the cost of fixing a few minor faults and paying €40 for the test.

If they doubled the fine and made it a points offence it would go a long way to solving the problem.

Yes we only paid 100€ as we paid up the next day. I dont know about mainland spain but we have 'road blocks' all the time checking on ITV's, insurance, seat belts etc. I think its great (although a pain) and hopefully reduces the amount of people taking the risk of no insurance, no ITV etc
