Moving to Spain shortly, no work is needed.... Thankfully!!!

However what should be the first few things I do when I arrive. I would like healthcare preferably paying the 250 per month but do I have to be employed??

Can I just contribute? I am a English citizen but currently live in Australia where I also have citizenship?

Good luck and hope you enjoy life in Spain. Private medical insurance is easily available but depending on age and any previous conditions you have you will not have to pay anything like 250 a month. We pay 160 for two people with Medifiat and the quality of care is superb.
The first thing to do is get to know your neighbours and speak some Spanish.
Find a car, get yourself registered at your local Town hall and apply for a NIE number. Its all good fun and quite an achievement once done...

As a UK/EU citizen you won't have many problems (Ozzies need visas etc.). Need to be employed? no. Some regions ask for "proof of abilty to cover healthcare" but some don't bother. (I've never been asked yet after 4 years here). If you have private medical insurance in Australia, why not ask your broker/agent there, if the cover could be transferred to a Spanish company, or will they still cover you during your time in Spain?

As Chris said, register with the town hall, get a car....but remember....that white line in the middle of the road, should always be closest to the driver, but be aware that some drivers over here pay scant attention to that. (a bit like driving from Cairns to Port Douglas in north Queensland....frightening:eek:)

Oh dear :eek: I've been driving with the white line furthest away from me all this time!!!!! Should I drive on the other side of the road???: :lol:
(My car is RHD ;)) Bsides Spaniards respond to the white line as a scalextric car does the metal groove!

Yes. You cannot make voluntary contributions nor can you declare your self autonomo (self-employed) without an 'acceptable' job!

I have rental properties and asked to use this income as proof of being self-employed - they would not allow it!
